Eurocard/MasterCard...is this something different?
Was just looking at credit cards the Hotel Central takes in Dachau. It showed the typical Visa logo but the MasterCard said Eurocard. Is this something different? Thanks.

I don't know the difference if there is any. My card says EUROCARD-MasterCard so I have been using it since always thinking that they are the same thing.

Eurocard and MasterCard seem to be one and the same creature as regards your using your MasterCard in Europe.
|
Indeed interchangeable. I believe that if you get a card from a bank in Europe it will say Eurocard, but if you get it in the US it will say MasterCard. No difference. I was once shocked when a restaurant told me they wouldn't accept MasterCard but would accept Visa, when I said, "but I thought it is the same as Eurocard," they responded that yes it is, but they didn't take Eurocard either.

As I said, my card that I got in Europe says both MasterCard and Eurocard.
|
The Eurocard was Germany's first major charge card. It was later associated with MasterCard. In Germany, most places that take Eurocard can accept MasterCard, but I have run into some that don't.

I have a card issued by Master Card in the US. It does not say Eurocard on it. I have had it refused in places in Europe that take "Eurocard/Mastercard". One of my employees in Germany tells me they are different. If this is important to you - I'd try to get clarification. I have never been able to use them interchangeable.
