Euro Trivia quiz #11 - Know Your Bordering Countries?
today's trivial trivia quiz about Europe:
1- The Schengen Accords name of Schengen represents a town where three European countries all border each other.
What three countries are there and which country is Schengen in?
2- Of all EU countries which one borders the most other European countries?
3- What EU country has the most borders with other countries?
4- Which EU countries have no external borders or only one?
The first correct answer wins 10 Spanish pesetas - plus shipping and handling, of course.

Cyprus:
any Greek Cypriot would tell you that Cyprus has no land borders because the Northern part of the Island is illegally occupied by Turkish troups who created a so called Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, Republic which would get bankrupt tomorrow if it wouldn't continously be financed by Turkey and which is recognized by nobody except the Turkish envader.
He would continue that a territory which is recognized by nobody cannot be a State and can therefore not have borders, but only a demarcation line in the best case.
BTW: that's why South Cypriot officials never stamp a passport at the Green line checkpoints.

flanner has a point that the UK and Denmark can now claim to have two borders - since the Eurotunnel and the Öresund bridge have been completed, respectively.
Cyprus is only one country - as neckervd explained. When a border is not recognized, it is no border but just a demarcation line with checkpoints. Also the EU considers North Cypriots as EU citizens.
Obviously, this non-border looks and feel much more like a real border between, for example, Germany and France.
Within the Schengen area, borders have become irrelevant since the checkpoints got vacated. Furthermore many communities on each of former borders now share facilities and services transit systems, police, etc.
