Euro Travel Quiz # 34 - Potpourri

1- This 'palace' in The Hague was built with a gift from Andrew Carnegie - what is its official name?

2- In London what park would you go to to see life-size dinosaurs (models) described by Wiki below?

The ?????? Park Dinosaurs, also known as Dinosaur Court, are a series of sculptures of extinct animals (including dinosaurs) and mammals in ????? Park. Unveiled in 1854, they were the first dinosaur sculptures in the world, pre-dating the publication of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species by six years. While to varying degrees inaccurate by modern standards, the models were designed and sculpted by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins under the scientific direction of Sir Richard Owen, representing the latest scientific knowledge at the time. The models were classed as Grade II listed buildings from 1973, extensively restored in 2002, and upgraded to Grade I listed in 2007.
The models represent fifteen genera of extinct animals, not all dinosaurs. They are from a wide range of geological ages, and include true dinosaurs, ichthyosaurs, and plesiosaurs mainly from the Mesozoic era, and some mammals from the more recent Cenozoic era.>

6, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh museum and Stedelijk.

7, jenever is known as Dutch gin, though it is an older drink than gin. It is served in a borrelglas, often tulip shaped, and the glass is filled to the rim, so that the first sip must be taken with the glass still on the bar. There are two sorts, young and old, but that doesn't relate to the age of the liquor, but the type.

All correct except # 9 has been withdrawn because of a faulty question - faulty mind - I thought Olympia, Greece - ancient Olympia was fairly close to Patras - I have not checked but will just assume I am wrong so Q # 9 is moot - all answers correct - I consuslted with Supervisor Percy about this and he said so too.

# 7 - well of course hetismij who lives in The Netherlands is correct but I learnt when taking zillions of people on group trips long ago and having a 'jenever party' in one campsite bar - was told anyway that the flavored djenever - like lemon or orange flavored was only drunk by women whilst the men drank the pure not so sweet tasting stuff - one Dutch guy saying about the flavored jenevers - "that's just perfume for women - a man would never drink a flavored jenever!"

Maybe that is not correct but Bellarossa, according to Supervisor Percy, wins with the most correct the first! She/he wins a free year of posting on Fodor's - plus S & H of course! Enjoy!

The Stedelijk Or Modern/contemporary/way out Art Museum, is a third major museum on Museumplein. Recently re-opened after being closed for some years when it was based in the old post office tower next to Centraal Station, now the den of the Amsterdam Public Library (not totally sure of exact details about this but went there to see it when there.

Percy of course retains final authority on all nitty-gritty!
