Euro Rail Pass
 

Hello all,

I am traveling in Germany, France and Switzerland - specifically - Frankfurt - Nuremberg - Munich - Paris - Luzern.

I am considering buying the 2 country euro rail pass (Germany-Switzerland).

Does anyone know if this pass is accepted on the City Night Line from Munich to Paris? And can I use it for Golden Pass express as well as SBB trains and then from Basel to Frankfurt?

For those of you who have traveled on this route on train before, what kind of pass makes sense or individual tickets are better?

Sorry if I confused you. My itinerary is USA - Frankfurt - Nuremberg - Munich - Paris(CNL) - Luzern (TGV) - Basel - Frankfurt - USA.

If you know your schedule, point to point tickets tend to be less expensive if you can book them in advance.

There is no France-Germany railpass nowadays.

I would suggest re-routing yourself so that you exit and re-enter Germany when you see Paris and Luzern - which yields the best point to point fares from DB. When's your trip? If it's a while off, there may still be some good savings fares - like these I just looked at for September 13, for example.

FRA - Paris: 39-59€
Paris - Nuremberg: 39 - 69€
Nuremberg - Munich: 19€
Munich - Luzern: 39€
Luzern - Freiburg: 19€ (get off in and stay off in Basel - or schedule Basel as a stopover on the way to Freiburg.)
Freiburg - FRA: 29€

So that's 184€ - 234€. These tickets commit you to specific trains. Don't buy them if it's total flexibility that you desire. These tickets first go on sale 92 days in advance. Prices go up as tickets sell.

With a pass, you would have to pay a supplements in addition to the cost of the pass. For the CNL, you would pay a supplement of 11.50€ for a seat, 27.50 to share a 6 person couchette, 37.50€ four person couchette, 75€ to share a double cabin or 115€ for a single cabin.

Look at point-to-point tickets on each country's website. Often there are advance purchase discounts.

Munich/Paris might be cheaper to fly one of the budget airlines.

Thank you. I am leaving in a week - this was unplanned - a business trip came along and I decided to take some time off and see Europe.

It appears that the pass might not be worth. I will check how much does it cost point-to-point.

Does purchasing Bahn 25 card save me on point-to-point fares from Germany?

SNCF has opted out of the three-country Select Pass, but the France-Germany pass still exits.

At this late date, discount fares may be gone for your routes. I suggest that you book the Munich-Paris CNL train immediately. Popular night trains can sell out weeks in advance.

What is your opinion about Global Pass for 8 days?

I only see a 15 day Global Pass for $769 as the least number of days you can select (on Raileurope). Your tickets buying point-to-point are only 200€ or so. You would still have to add the cost of supplements to the price of the pass. Did you mean a select pass?

My point-to-point definitely much more than 200 euros for the whole trip - May I ask how did you think of the 200 number.

Depending on your travels in Switzerland it is easy to realize the value of a Swiss Pass as it has far more benefits in Switzerland than does a Eurailpass, which is not valid on some key train lines yet the Swiss Pass is valid on nearly all of them and gets 50% off aerial cable ways, trains to mountaon tops, etc and is fully valid on the Golden Pass - also valid on buses, trams and lake boats as well as giving free entry to 400+ Swiss museums - a 3-day Flexipass or 4-consecutive-day pass can ber a great deal and you do not have to be traveling all over the country to make it so.

But like others say I think the Global Pass is too expensive for what you are doing and will not even cover some things in Switzerland (that a Swiss Pass does) - so yes score discounted tickets (not likely to be available in such short notice however IME) on the CNL to Paris (Germany-Switzerland pass would not be valid on that train though it may get you a minor discount for the German portion).

Well there is a 10-day Global Eurail Flexipass - to be used over a 2-month period - still too high probably for what you are doing.

The choices were 10 days over 15 days for $769, not two months. The next option you can select is 10 days over 21 days which costs $907. When you select the second one, when the price pops up it says it's valid two months. The first selection says only 15 days.
