1. Means mountain of martyr since St. Denis was beheaded there. He was the bishop of Paris.

Well grandmere - My sources say St Denis was beheaded but miraculously ran off with his severed head cradled in his hands until collapsing on the highest nearby hill - closest to Heaven he could get - and then they changed the name of that hill from Mars Hill or Venice Hill to Montmartre - mount of the martyr.
