Pvoyageuse got in before me, though of course several english/French i.e. the Plantaganet monarchs are buried either in the Abbey at Fontavraud or in the church at Candes St Martin.

PalenQ May 25th, 2015 12:02 PM

Ah pvoyageuse got them all right except # 4 - there may be a few kings and queens buried there but the others at least for the past few centuries have mainly be buried elsewhere - in a place meant as a burial site for British monarchs - Edward VII being the only recent excpetion as he was banished to a lesser British royalty burial ground not far from where the kings and queens are buried.

Pvoyageuse takes today's prize - one free year of postering on Fodor's!

#1 - bedar has it - Hamm Military cemetery in Hamm, Luxembourg a suburb of Luxembourg City

#4 he has it correct in general but still looking for the name of the exact place in Windsor Castle kings and queens are traditionally buried.

#5 and 10 remain open.

5. South Bend, Indiana?
10. Paris Pet Cemetery

Bedar May 25th, 2015 12:26 PM

4. St. George's Chapel

PalenQ May 25th, 2015 12:38 PM

OK we have all but # 5 - Bedar of course knew that before. Poor Edward VII exiled to Frogmore in the Windsor Great Park because of his infidelities with that Simpson divorcee (and an American to boot).

MaineGG has the Paris Pet Cemetery and that is right though the official name is Cemetery of Dogs and Cats - RinTinTin has a nice little tombstone there - the canine being brought home from WW1 by a U S soldier who lived in Los Angeles and somehow turned the dog into a mega star - his corpse being returned to France, his birthplace, after his death.

Victoria and Albert are in Frogmore Mausoleum, and Wallis was buried with the Duke amongst other lesser royals in the Royal burial ground.
Being an American had nothing to do with it. The King was the head f the Church of England, which was opposed to the marriage of divorced people. Since Wallis had divorced one, and was busy divorcing a second husband at the time the King proposed to her he could not marry her and fulfill that role.

I suspect if he had remained King we Brits would be speaking German now, since he was apparently an admirer of Mr Hitler, and that is the reason he was sent off to the Bahamas for the war.

PalenQ it was Edward viii who married Mrs Simpson, Edward vii was married to Queen Alexandra and was his grandfather

PQ - 5. I looked it up and he is indeed buried in South Bend in the Highland Cemetery.

PalenQ May 25th, 2015 02:12 PM

Oops - MaineGG - I am humiliated for believing what I read once that Knute was buried in Voss, Norway - what can I say but be chagrined. Knute was born in Voss, Norway and there is probably some kind of memorial there. Yes I looked up too and what can I say - something I thought was a sure fire thing was not - should have fact checked it.

Please give me a pass on that!

MaineGG May 25th, 2015 04:36 PM

Well I originally put a question mark after my answer since it was just a guess. I can see where you might have thought he was buried in Voss since there's a photo of a large memorial plaque there on Rockne's Wikipedia page.
