What about here in the U.S. with the price of gas ?? (and everything else)
Just go & enjoy your trip & be happy that you are able to travel. |
We found the restaurants to be a very good value in Buenos Aires but the hotels were not bargains and had prices similar to the US.. Flights there are more expensive than Europe, at least when we went they were, plus a much longer flight time.
You were lucky to go to Europe with good exchange rate. I have dealt with a poor rate for years. Take a look a Asia for values. |
...an old time poster herein once made the most provocative comment regarding the Euro. A poster was complaining that the Euro at 1,49 was gaining in strength vs the USD. She had made a comment.."if the Euro hits 1.50 I'm gong to cancel my trip." The old sage from Georgia quipped: "so you're saying that if it stays at 1.49 you'll go?"
Thanks Ira! stu |
Our planes tickets to Europe are bought and so are the planes tickets for our trip to Venice/Dubrovnik/Paris.
We have already put a down payment to reserve our places in Rome and Dubrovnik therefore I cannot and will not change my mind. If the Euro keep going up my daughter and I will eat more paninis if we have to. I dont travel to Europe for the food anyway and besides life is too short and is better enjoy it today.. Tomorrow? Chissa!! |
I think the airline ticket prices have been more of a factor than the Euro in our situation.
My DH gets testy at the ticket prices. I just can't get him to commit to 2 Europe trips this year. |
LOL tower!! Ira is great, isn't he?? :-)

I am in Nice now and I have already booked trips to Europe in June and September. I just go with the flow and not worry about the exchange rates. Otherwise, you will waste good times on your trip by worrying.

We do stay in apartments as I prefer that option simply because we like some downtime when traveling. Space to spread out is the key to familial harmony! My favorite place in Provence costs just about what we will be paying for nine nights in a hotel in Door County, WI this summer. When I tell DH that, he reminds me it doesn't cost as much to get to Door County! Problem is -- I love overseas travel and my husband just goes along to get along (with me!) I shall begin the 2012 Europe planning!

Someone has engaged "panic mode" today.
It might be wise to change your travel money for travelling abroad rather sooner than later. Qute a few people today are trying to sell their dollar for something with more value (whatever that may be). |
Go to India. It's awesome. And cheaper than Europe or Ustaos Unidos de America.

That is EXACTLY why I am giving my husband a trip to Germany for his 40th birthday :) He said he wants to turn 40 sitting in a beer garden in Munich. So I built a trip around that. However, if we were deciding today where to go for a regular vacation - we wouldn't choose Europe because of the exchange rate. We are talking about places to go on vacation next year and are thinking a lot about Latin America and SE Asia because our money will go farther. I figure that the USD and the Euro will normalize eventually and we can visit Europe again then. In the mean time, there is a whole world out there to be explored. So I guess the answer to the question is - yes, the exchange rate is causing us to look at other places to visit. |
slightly different but even with it being virtually next door (relatively speaking) i'm not travelling to Europe so much because of the exchange rate of the Euro. i am however taking the chance to go further afield, the US this year and looking at Australia and the Far East for 2012 :)
