Euro Dollars
We are going to Paris in two days. Shall we get euro's from our bank here in US or wait till we get to Paris. Any suggestions as to where we should get the money exchanged for a good rate.
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions. |
Hi knaya,
The best way to pay for things is to charge everything chargeable to your credit card and to get cash using your ATM card. There is no need to bring dollars to convert to euro. I change about $50 at the airport before leaving (bad exchange rate), just to have some money upon arrival. |
Do they accept Visa or Amex or MC for train tickets?
Is it better to pay for things with your credit card or traveller;s check. Thanks |
credit card
Most people here have stopped using traelers checks. Too many fees, poor exchange rates, often difficult to find someone who will cash them. |
knaya:
I like to arrive in Europe with some euros in my pocket; others disagree. The best exchange rate is obtained by using your ATM debit card. Traveler's checks are, IMO, useless. Most places won't take them in lieu of cash, so you end up having to go to a bank and cash them, usually paying a commission to do so. As ira says, use your credit card to pay for hotels, meals, train tickets, etc. (yes, you can buy train tickets with Amex, Visa, and Mastercard), and use the ATM to get spending cash. They are not "euro dollars," by the way, just euros. |

Yes, they do. |
