Euro Disney
My family and I will be visiting Paris in June 2007. I am from South Africa and plan to go to Euro Disney for one day. I have heard that Euro Disney is not worth seeing. Is that true? We will be staying at the Hotel Louvre Marsollier Opera. Have anybody stayed at this hotel before?
Any remarks on the above will be appreciated. Pieter |
Well, it's just a theme park. Not something I'd ever take time out of my longhaul holiday to see but then I don't have children!
|
If your family has never been to a Disney place then it will definitely, at least for you kids, worth it.
If you've been then i'd forego it and do something else. |
Several things..
1. The term eurodisney is outdated...it is disneyland paris and there are 2 theme parks there...one very much like the magic kingdom in Orlando and in Anaheim the other somewhat like MGM Studios...the 2nd one is not really worth it...the magic kingdom? Well it depends... Some people who are big disney fans enjoy seeing how it is the same and how it is different from the disney parks they have been to in the United States ...it is fun if you are a disney fan to see how many of your favorites are translated into a French motif. Also others who will not be getting to the US and/or Japanese versions just feel they have to do a Disney park at least once in their lives. Others cringe when they think people wasting part of their European vacations on this monstrosity and how could you prefer visiting this decadent example of American imperialism instead of the historic features of Paris. And also some Disney fans are disappointed as it is a much smaller version of its counterparts at home.... So it's a personal choice...I'm not ready to simply say no it's not worth it or yes you must see it; you'll just have to decide and nobody can tell you what's right for you and your family. As far as getting there, it's a piece of cake....the RER A4 line which has several easy connections in Paris runs right to the front door at its last stop so you can't miss it. |
Thank you Kate. We will skip it then, and use the 3 days for something more interesting.
|
Don't forget the decadent examples of French imperialism in Paris!

"not worth it" is totally subjective. How many days do you have in Paris? Have you been to any Disney park before? Have you been to Paris before?
Those answers will help you decide if it is worth it or not. If you have been to Orlando or Anaheim - then maybe not. It is just the same w/ a slight French twist. If you are in Paris less than a full week - maybe not since there is sooooooo much to see and do in Paris. But if you have been to Paris, or have a week to 10 days, or have children w/ you - then it would make a fine day out. Only you can decide if it is "worth" going. |
And let the kids, if old enough have some choice in the matter IMO
|
our messages crossed - w/ only 3 days - I'd definitely stay in Paris.
|
My family spent 2 days at Disneyland Paris. The parks are very pretty-the best castle of any park, in my opinion, and some of the rides are better than their US versions. Would this be your first Disney park?
We had a great time, but we had 8 days in Paris. I don't think I'd use one of only three days in Paris to go there....UNLESS you've always wanted to visit a Disney park. |
Yes it will be our first Disney visit. My son is a teenager so maybe he is to big for disneyland paris (sorry xyz 123)
|
My sons who were Disney ages at the time have been to both U.S. Disneys and could not wait to leave Disneyland Paris. We thought it was boring and a huge waste of time.
|
I have been to both Disney World and Disneyland in California. When I am in Paris in October I will also be going to Disneyland Paris. I have heard that it ranks about 2nd with Disney World being #1 and Disneyland (California) #3. if you have never been I would suggest it IF you like amusement parks. I love them which is why my fiance and I are going. But asking if it's work it or not is really subjective it depends on what types of things you want to do.
Also, if you like amusement parks but just don't want to go to Disneyland Paris how about the Parc Astrix http://www.parcasterix.fr/v2/ Just my thoughts. Good Luck! |
Disneyland Paris and Disney Studios are worth visiting for first timers to the Disney experience. However, the price in June will be quite expensive (there are plenty of good deals out of season). If the cost is an issue, save Disney for a future trip to Paris, out of season (but let me tell you that teens love those parks -- the Aerosmith Rock'n'Rollercoaster in Disney Studios and Space Mountain in Disneyland have them going back again and again and again and again).

My son and I visited Disney Paris last year with mixed reviews. My son was 18and we had never visited any Disney park in the US. He was far more interested in going (to my shock and horror!) than I was, but I relented.
We spent about half a day there (including the train from Paris). It wasn't a horrible waste of time, but I'd much rather have been strolling through the Tuilleries than Disney's "gardens" any day. My son liked it, bought gifts to take home, and even called his girfriend in the US just to tease her about where we were. Me? Besides the Space Mountain ride, I could have done without it. Melissa |
To-visit-or-not-to-visit can be answered in many ways!
I personally am a big Disney-fan and have both the parks in the US and DLP several times. DLP does have a fwe less attractions than the US-parks (no Splash Mountain and Jungle Cruise for instance). But the park certainly isn't small! In size (surface area) it is bigger than the original in California and about equal to the one in Florida. That said; DLP is my personal favourite. It is the most detailed of all three parks (everey nook and cranny of the park is themed) and almost all the big attractions are there (Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribean etc) and they are newer and more sophisticated than in the US! Plus this year the park celebrates it's 15th birthday with a brand new parade and a lot of other activities! The movie-park (Walt Disney Studios) is much smaller, but being expanded from June with two new attractions. Nice park, but if you have got one day; don't go there! So if you have a day to spare, like them-parks and/or are a Disney fan; please go! Even for teenagers it is a nice park. At least 12 million people each year visit park and most of them do have a good time! |
This is entirely subjective.
We went as a family and had a great time but then we love going to theme parks. If you don't enjoy theme parks then you won't enjoy DisneyParis. |
Thank you for all the remarks and help. The only way to know if it is worth it is to visit the park, and see for ourselves. What is the easiest way to get to the park from Paris?
|
Look at the metro map and fine the closest "correspondance" for the RER line A4....catch the RER train marked something or other Cheesy (always forget the name of the terminal station damn it)...which is the station on the maps for Parc Disneyland (be careful the east bound RER has two branches...the signs clearly indicate which one the next train will be)....you can't miss it, it's the last stop on this branch and everybody (you'll see lots and lots of people) get off there...RER requires special tickets as Parc Disneyland is in zone 5...actually I always buy a billet mobilis pour les zone un a cinq which covers the return trip to Disneyland and whatever other bus and metro travel I choose to do that day..the price is about the same as buying two one way tickets between zones 1 & 5....on the RER you are required to insert your ticket when entering and leaving the RER part of the system..at Parc Disneyland that's the end of the line but when you get back to Paris, say you're changing at Chatelet les Halles, you will leave the RER through special turnstiles where you insert and get your ticket back but will not be leaving the system as a whole (follow the orange signs saying correspondance to the metro line you want)...the Paris Metro/RER is very very easy, very well signed and you'll have no trouble whatsoever.

"I have heard that Euro Disney is not worth seeing. Is that true?"
Obviously as you can see from the answers, it depends on whose telling you. We finally did it a couple of years ago and had a wonderful day -- but then we like Disneyland and DisneyWorld. Obviously anyone who HATES those places (and there are lots of them) would not appreciate going to Disneyland Paris. And by the way, we're pretty much seniors and have no kids (unless you consider us as kids). What we really enjoyed was comparing things there with how they are done back home. The parade seemed a bigger event than at home. Interestingly the haunted mansion looked more like the Bates house in Psycho that a French style mansion (as it is in the US). And the most surprising thing was that the food seemed worse quality and more overpriced than in the US parks. I'm pretty sure we bought special tickets that included the RER with the admission to the Park and saved a couple euro that way -- but I can't remember how or where we bought them. |
