And where does your resarch say I am wrong ?
Perhaps one should have ridden the train before claiming such a range of knowledge. You have yet to even say thatr you have ridden this train. The answer is obvious - You have not . If I remember correctly your research answering a question for a vienna village heuriger visit- recommended the place Olewig then something more about taking the streetcar there. Just one problem Olewig is in Germany not in Vienna. Others gave accurate advice. Obviously as you have not been on a railjet - your so-called knowledge comes from Wikipedia or others- even then flawed. 3 classes on a railjet Premium First Class Economy A First Class ticket is just that - for First Class - Just why would a firm provide a premium class and then open to Fist class passengers for free.. Premium requires a supplement fee. You find this clearly on Austrian Rail advertising - but I guess the actual rail carrier is wrong and you know more than the firm operating the train. |
My only point and one you have missed is that with a first-class railpass valid in Austria I can ride in Premium class at no extra fee - that is all that I am claiming, not that Premium Class tickets cost more than first-class - and since passes are accepted in fancy-dandy Premium Class it makes a pass much more valuable to cover such extravaganz that costs even more than first class.

Eurail Pass Conditions
Eurail Pass holders are entitled to travel by railjet (if your Pass is valid in the involved countries). Reservation of a seat is not required, but is possible at an additional fee of 3,50 euro. A second class Eurail Pass is valid in Economy class, a 1st class Pass is valid in First Class. 1st class Pass holders can travel in Premium Class for an additional fee of 25 euro, including a reserved seat. You can make reservations in advance at larger stations, or in the train itself if there are seats left. |
Just looked at my 2011 Eurail map with surcharges and it does not have that but I would think bourbon has it right - the map was not updated perhaps. And I stand corrected. Had a good source though.

I should have posted the link.

If an individual poster had taken the time to inquire on the austrian rail site I had given in one of my previus posts , they would have clearly seen the need for the Premium Class supplement. Rather they choose to call my factual information " Simply wrong "
Some perhaps do not wish to beleve someone that actually rides the railjet and stated several times here, correctly, the need for the supplement. Rather, they call this writer wrong, while relying on a Map for their Knowledge ? Happy to see that another posting confirms the facts as I had provided. |
