Eurail or Train tickets

Here is my debate:
There are 3 of us traveling: 2 adults, 1 19 yr old.
Venice/Florence
Florence/ Roma
Roma/Naples- Round trip
Wouldn't it be better to get the Eurail pass.

If so, how do you make reservations for the trains?
First stop arrival by air in Venice. Train station is out of the way. I cannot figure out how to make reservations for that 1st leg.
~~Thanks again, Fodorites~

To see if a pass is cheaper, go to

www.railsaver.com

and enter your itinerary. Then click on "Only if it saves me money".

Frankly, I don't think it will, particularly not if your trip is still 60 days or more ahead. As of 60 days before, you can go to

www.trenitalia.com

to reserve and try for the 29 and 39 Euro fares in 1st or 2nd class on Eurostar (ES) trains. (The 29 Euro fare is not offered on routes where 2nd class costs a bit more or less than 29 Euro.)

I don't understand the "First stop arrival by air in Benice. Train station is out of the way."

Are you arriving at Venice airport and not staying in Venice?

There is no rail connection between Venice airport and the closest train station, which is Venezia Mestre. But you can take an ACTV bus that stops at the Mestre train station.

If you are going into Venice, there are at least three or four ways of doing it. Put >Venice +airport< into the search box and you will find hundreds of threads on how to do it.

No, a Eurail pass will not save you any money. Train travel in Italy is relatively inexpensive.
Venice-Florence: E26.60 on EuroStar Italia.
Florence-Rome: E29.44 on ES and as low as E14.31 on regional trains.
Rome-Naples: E22 on ES and as low as E10 on regional trains.
See schedules and fares at trenitalia.com. You can buy tickets in advance on that site or you can buy them when you get to Italy. Do it the night before you leave each city for the shortest lines.

We are planning on going from the airport in Venice to Hotel via Aliguiana.
I just meant I would be near the train station.
Thanks for you help, yall!
Fodorites are the best kind of friends to have. You have been so helpful.
I made 2 of the reservations already this afternoon. Thanks for giving me the "courage" to do it myself.
When we have traveled before, we had a Eurail pass and I never booked ahead. But I did it today!!
~Thanks again!

Hi tncricket, I am happy for you. I also feel there is so many good "friends" in Fodors. I am glad you booked ahead but also it is not a bad idea to buy the ticket while in Europe it also works very good. In Italy , Spain you can buy the tickets in any travel agency. It is woderful , in Spain also you can get it in the airport the day you arrive. Have a great trip.
