Eurail on Christmas Day?

Eurail on Christmas Day?
We need to get from Salzburg to Florence on Christmas day. No trains scheduled but lady on phone said they MIGHT yet. Has anyone had experience in recent years with this and have any idea what our chances are of a train being scheduled?

Eurail is not a train system - it's a reseller of tickets.
If you go to bahn.de - the most relaible site for train schedules in europe - it shows only one train - an overnight with a change leaving Christmas night and arriving in Florence at 6 am the next day. Or, a train leaving late on the 24th and arriving at 6 am on the 25th. It looks like Christmas it not a great day for international train travel.

is another good place to check train schedules. And actually, it looks like regular service on xmas day- seems to only ever be that one daily overnight train between Salzburg and Florence.

Sorry, but the lady on the phone doesn't have a clue what she's talking about.
There are 4-5 train option every day, with either one connect in Innsbruck or plus a 2nd connection in Bologna.
The winter train schedules after Dec 10 haven't been posted online yet for the most part. Except for minor schedule tweaks they will be nearly identical to the current fall schedule. You can check the options on an earlier Friday such as Dec. 4.
Also, Eurail is simply a marketing co that sells passes, not the operator of any trains. The best site to check for schedules in all Europe is the German rail site, www.bahn.de. Don't be in a hurry to buy a pass from Eurail either, until you explore the various point to point ticket options and prices directly from the train operators.

Thanks. I guess it will be Dec. 10 (or as we were told, the 13th) before we know. We did this trip two years ago, we just did it the day after Christmas. We left Salzburg in the morning and got to Florence in the evening. And that's the schedule for November, but we hadn't found it on Christmas. (Just put Eurail in title as a shortcut heading.)

In most European countries, trains on Christmas Day run to a Sunday schedule, as on any other public holiday, though with some amendments. The Italian schedules for December don't seem to have been posted yet. Try in a few days.
