EURAIL GLOBAL PASS

Hi Guys! We want to take 1st class for all our trips. Just wanted to know if you think a global pass is worth it? Our itinerary looks something this:

Frankfurt to Paris
Paris to Prague - might take a plane for this
Prague to Venice
Venice to Rome
Rome to Florence
Florence to Barcelona - still thinking about the best way for this route, any suggestions?

I've also read that some trains need reservations. Can I make the reservations just a day before we take the train? I'm a bit afraid to book online as I might book the wrong train because I'm not that familiar with the stations.

Hope you can help me! Thank you! :)

It depends on what time of year you'll be going and what kind of train you want to take. The faster trains, like the Eurostar, Thayls, etc. do require reservations in the first class cars. If you're going in the height of summer, you may want to book in advance, especially if you are in a party of more than 2. If you want to take a night train, again, you'll need to make compartment or couchette reservations.

Also, how much time do you have to do this? The answer to that question helps figure out whether the pass is "worth it".

Also, are you starting in Frankfurt, the flying out of Barcelona? Or planning to go back to the start?

I might suggest changing the order of your trip. From Frankfurt go to Prague, then to Venice, then to Florence, then Rome. From there fly to Paris and then take an overnight train to Barcelona. Assuming you've already booked flights in/out.

Surfergirl,we're going this June. I guess we should start reserving our tickets already. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hez, thanks for your suggestion. Sounds good will modify our itinerary!

You might want to mix and match.

For example, booked at www.trenitalia.com, Venice to Florence (and for that matter, Florence to Rome) start at €39 1st class advance purchase rising to around €65 1st class full-flex, all INCLUDING reservation whereas a Eurail global pass is what, around €70-per-day with a €10 reservation fee = €80 to make the same journey.

For Prague-Venice you'd go Prague-Vienna (from €19 if you booked at www.cd.cz/eshop) then the sleeper Vienna-Venice (from €39 with couchette or from €79 with bed in 2-bed sleeper booked at www.oebb.at)
