Estimated Costs in Paris?

Would anyone happen to know what the estimated total costs of a trip to Paris might be? (including lodging, food, sightseeing?) It would be truly appreciated....

I'm currently planning a trip to Paris (solo) in October--its seems after mid-October fares go down. I understand October is a big month for conventions in Paris, so I expect to reserve hotels early. I'm using a combination of info from Fodor's & Rick Steves Europe Through the Back Door. His France/Belgium/Amsterdam guidebook gives up-to-date estimated costs, breaking them down into transportation, lodging, eating & sightseeing. I expect to spend $1200 (excluding airfare) for 8 days. This will enable me to make a side trip to Rouen, and possibly one into the Loire region. My estimate reflects the fact I'm traveling alone and won't be able to share hotel costs. I expect to spend no more than $60-65 per day for hotels as a single but I don't expect to book anything more than a one or two star & I may hostel on side trips.

When my wife & I travel to Europe, we use the same general cost formula no matter where we go, including Paris, & it works for us.
We allow about $100 - $130 per night for a double, for hotel. But there are less & more expensive rooms depending upon what you
want in it. That is the price range that works for us & what we want in a room.
We try to purchase in advance if we are going to use 1 of the various train passes or attraction entrance passes -- such as La Carte for Paris
area attractions. You can purchase entrance passes when you get to Paris, but by getting the passes ahead
of time, it helps control our costs while there, & then you DON'T have to wait in lines to buy entrance to each place you want to visit.

We generally allow $100 per day per adult to cover all the other expenses -- food, souvenirs, fees not covered by passes, etc.
Some days it is $50, some days it is $150, but usually is is under $100, so we have some money left when we get home, but also we
do not run out while on vacation. We pay for the hotel rooms, & larger purchases by credit card. That way we get a very good
exchange rate, & do not have to carry extra money to cover those expenses.

Again, how much you spend depends upon how fancy you want to get in a hotel room or restaurant, but remember you are in Paris now & you may
not know when you will get the chance to go back, so do what you want to do even if it may cost alittle extra -- take that extra
boat ride on the Seine at night, then just buy a sandwich in the park
for lunch instead of going to a restaurant. Enjoy!

I agree with B. Irving's formula. It is exactly what I do. I suggest you decide the price range of the hotel you want to stay in (i.e. budget, moderate, expensive) and seek out a couple of choices in that range by netsrufing, reading guides, asking friends. After you've reserved your room, you'll then have the basis for your budget. I would then add $75/$100 per day (for two) for meals, admissions and go from there. Believe me, your biggest cost will be the hotel room. You can get some excellent good value meals in France. Rick Steves is good for this as well as Budget Access Europe. E-mail me if you want to chat more.

Last October I spent 10 days in Paris.I found Paris was not that expensive.Airfare to Paris was low. Hotel (with 1 star ) was clean, cheap and warm.Total cost for my trip was about $1300.That was included everything(Air,Hotel,Food,Sightseeing).Few tips for you:1) Walk in Paris. 2)Buy Musee Pass(if you like arts) 3)Go to restaurant where local people go.
4)Book hotel before you go .5)Check Paris on line to find the cheap hotel.

I just got back from Paris 48 hours ago! I keep a good account of what we spend, so I hope this helps. The hotel was wonderful - great location, super staff, cute, garden - for 510 francs ($91). It
s Hotel des Grandes Ecole, on the Left Bank, at 75 Rue de Cardinal Lemoine (metro stop very close). Fax: 43-25-28-15. tel: 43-26-79-23. I would heartily recommend it.
Many good restaurants nearby. Our dinners cost about 90 francs ($16) for good, fixed price, 3 course dinners (including wine) - casual places. Admissions to museums were about 40 francs $7), and best deal of all was a 3-day metro pass for 110 F ($20). Even if you don't take 13 trips (each is 8 francs) the convenience of not buying tickets is well worth it. So each day we spent about $55 each. Bring warm clothes and an umbrella. Take a boat ride (45 f $8). If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. PS - If anyone needs to know, the metro doesn't run until 5:30 a.m., so if you have an early (7am) flight, plan to take a taxi -- the other services don't run early enough. Our taxi to Charles de Gaulle was 300 f + tip %3D $63, but the airport is 30min. away. And it worked; we called the day ahead and voila! There he was!
