estimate of time to allow for a London taxi ride?

Can anyone venture a wild guess on the amount of time it might take for a taxi ride from Victoria Station to Waterloo Station?
The time of travel would be 10:30 A.M.-ish on a weekday in October.
I know that a lot depends on the traffic situation in London on that morning.

You can walk that distance in 30 minutes or so if you are fast. I hope it would take less by taxi and I'm sure it usually would, but that's not a given, of course.

Thanks for your reply. I hope a taxi takes less time then I would if I walked to Waterloo . I walk at a fairly fast clip, but my rollaboard suitcase tends to dawdle and look into every shop window. I think I had better treat it to a taxi ride. ;-)

Should be less, but to be safe, I'd allow a half hour maximum.
Just guessing, are you coming in by Gatwick Express and then need to get to Eurostar? If so, the underground really might be just as easy for that particular route, and certainly quicker.

Duh, I'm not sure I should have said that. After posting it suddenly clicked in my head that route requires a transfer -- a little more complication with luggage than direct.

If we're talking Gatwick to Waterloo, other options are:

- take the (admittedly slower) stopping train from Gatwick to Clapham Junction and changing there for a train to Waterloo (but you'll need to get the luggage up and down stairs)

- take the Thameslink train to London Bridge, and a bus or a taxi (shorter distance than Victoria-Waterloo) or Jubilee Line (two stops, no other changes once you're in the Underground - get on at the front of the train for quicker access to Eurostar at Waterloo).
