Essoyes--Have you been there?
If you have been there...please tell me about it. Worth a stop on the way to Burgundy
from Epernay ??? Working on a driving route ...hopefully on the "back roads"-vs-auto route. Thanks for replies...! |
Nottingham - I don't know if it will help but I remember a long while back I got in a dialogue with a poster who wanted to visit Essoyes. I think a famous artist or writer lived there. Anyway, I found the link to that that thread and as usual I went overboard providing all kinds of info and basically gave a novel length response. But maybe there's something in that thread you'll find useful so here is the link:

Famous artist---Renoir! and thanks for the link ! I felt for sure that I would hear from you...as I feel you have been EVERYWHERE off the beaten path in France !
|
Oh, I'm a long way from having been everywhere but I have a soft spot for discovering "worthless" villages. ;) Let me know if you need any more tips for your trip.

Just read & printed out your link "paris-to-essoyes".....and will "study" it !!
Noticed you mentioned Semur-en-Auxois also...which is where we will be heading. Speaking of "worthless" villages...we have plans to take a slight detour (on the way to Colmar) onto a road that will take us to Vaudry & Matheny...near Arbois in the FrenchComte area...seems some long-ago ( and I mean LONG ago!) ancestors came from that area...so I'm on a" mission" for my cousin. Ever been in that area???? |
I'm afraid I still haven't made it to eastern France so I'm not much help there. Have you seen my trip report about spending a weekend in and around Semur?

just read your report & so enjoyed it and the photos.....also, it was a great reminder about
finding places to eat when in the small villages!!!...better be prepared for that. Thanks for your great reports! |
