Esperas in Oia?
Hi,
I am seriously considering staying at Esperas for my May honeymoon. Does anyone have feedback about specific rooms? They said superior traditional house room 121 is open for one set of dates we are considering, and s.t.h. 114 for another set of dates? Room 121 is the level above the pool. We'd love privacy on our terrace. Thanks! |
I toured Esperas last May. I can't speak to any specific room position, but did you know it does not have a caldera view? Many people assume it does because it has an unobstructed sunset view, but its position over the edge of the cliff in Oia prevents you from being able to see much of what most people go to Santorini for. That's not to say the view isn't wonderful, but I thought you should know.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I didn't know that. Do you know if the Oia Mare has a caldera view? Are there other hotels in this price range we should be considering? Thanks!

The Esperas and the Oia Mare are practically next door to each other, so the view is virtually the same.
Take a look at the Perivolas Villas and the Katikies properties, and if you'd be willing to consider something very special but not a hotel take a look at the Aspake Villas. They are fabulous self-catering units with daily maid service. www.perivolas.gr http://www.katikies.com/ www.artmaisons.gr |
We loved Esperas and the views are to die for--I have no idea what Brother is talking about. The units above the pool would be good---less walking to get to the top and into town.

I'm talking about the view from Esperas and Oia Mare compared to the view from Perivolas or Katikies or Delfini or Canaves or Lampetia or Volcano's Villas or Chelidonia or Aspaki or any of the other hotels with unobstructed caldera views. Esperas and Oia Mare's view of the caldera is blocked by the contours of the island. That's not to say its not a lovely view, it's just different.

Hi,
I think that brotherleelove means the view from the Esperas is more towards the sea as opposed to looking across or into the caldera. I think this is because the Esperas is almost at the tip of the island. I have stayed there and the view is fabulous. I did not feel the view was blocked by anything. We had a fabulous room with a very large patio. I do not remember our room number, but it was below pool level. I have also stayed at the Katikies and the view there looked more towards Fira or across to the volcano. You do not have the sunset view there, but of coarse the view is specatacular. We loved the Esperas and would stay there again. We felt the people who ran the hotel were more relaxed. The Katikies has gotten too expensive and the atmosphere can be stuffy. |
We stayed at Oia Mare for our honeymoon in August and I would 100% recommend it. I have no idea if we were missing a particular view - what we saw outside our door was amazing. I would go back there in a heartbeat.
