Esperas Deposit?
I just booked a room at Esperas, but they want a 30% deposit transferred to their account upfront, which I knew about, but I thought they would just request a credit card and charge the amount, but it seems like they want a transfer?? How do I do this? Help!
|
If they don't use the credit card then they probably require a bank wire transfer.

I am staying at Esperas at the end of this month and also had to make the 30% deposit. Esperas accepted a cashiers check from my bank in US Dollars...no wire transfer was necessary. You might want to ask about that option.

They said they would accept a wire transfer, cashier's check or traveler's checks.....wouldn't the wire transfer be the easiest to do instead of obtaining a cashier's check and sending it in the mail?
|
Yes.

FYI, I sent a wire deposit to Esperas about three weeks ago. I've never done this before and was surprised when my bank (Chase Manhattan) hit me with a $40 charge for this.
I'm assuming the other options would be much cheaper? Pat C |
I just checked with my bank and they will charge 35.00 for me to have the wire transfer.....
Beanweb24: when you sent the cashier's check, did you send it priority mail? How much did it cost? Any help would be much appreciated. |
I did not send it priority mail, but I did get insurance on it and I also requested a return receipt. At first the postmaster did not want to give me insurance, but when I indicated that it was a cashiers check, she relented. I got the return receipt back within 10 days and I got an email confirmation from Esperas about 2 wks after that. The cost was about $10.
An interesting tidbit...I contacted Esperas yesterday b/c your post made me think that I needed to plan to pay for the balance due on my reservation. She indicated that they WILL accept credit cards for the balance due, OR she offered me a 10% discount off entire stay for paying in cash...either US dollars or Euros. She would not accept cashiers check for the balance due, as she indicated it takes 2-3 weeks for a cashiers check to clear their bank. I'm making arrangements for cash payment in order to take advantage of the 10%! Hope this helps! |
I have done the bank draft in Euros for a previous trip and it was an expensive pain. I just pushed back a bit on the demands by the Esperas folks and mailed them a personal check via regular (international) mail. They didn't complain and now I am confirmed for 3 days in July - I can't wait!! (and no bank surcharges!!) - AbbeB

I made the cashier's check payable to Esperas Traditional Houses....is this ok?
|
You'll have to check with Esperas directly regarding the payee's name on the check. I feel like ours was addressed to a person (Julia?), but I could be wrong...my memory is failing me. :)
|
I asked them and Yvonne said if possible to make it out to the owner of the hotel...but I had already had the check made payable to Esperas Traditional Houses...Yvonne didn't say this wouldn't work, so I sent it today...hopefully everything will go ok!!!!
|
Good luck! And enjoy your trip. :)

Thanks! Yvonne e-mailed me back and said the cashier's check made out to Esperas Traditional Houses was ok. So now I am just going to wait for the confirmation, and then off to Greece in July!!!!
Thanks for everyone's help...much appreciated! |
Hi Fodorites...ok, so it's been a few weeks now since I sent my cashier's check to Esperas for the deposit, but they still have not received it...I emailed them and they said this is common, but it's kind of making me nervous....how long does it usually take for mail to arrive in Greece from the States....anyone know?
|
I wouldn't worry just yet...I'm sure it took me 3-4 weeks to hear back. Also, there could be a couple day delay due to the Easter holiday that just happened last week (government offices closed)...
|
Esperas contacted me and asked about the check. I had send it on April 14 and they still haven't received it. I went to the Hellenic Post website and entered in my Registered Mail tracking number. It came back with some greek words and a date and time on April 22, so I am assuming the Greek postal office received it on that day, but I'm not sure why it wouldn't have been delivered to Esperas. I asked Esperas to follow up on it. Really getting worried here....
