Esmeralda, Nesle, or Champs du Mars?

Between the Hotel Esmeralda, Hotel de Nesle and Hotel de Champs du Mars, which would you choose for two first time visitors to Paris on our honeymoon?

I stayed at Hotel Esmeralda in the 90's and although we had a very large room (double & one single bed in the room)was very disappointed with the cleanliness, the furniture, and especially the bathroom.
We may as well have done our own housekeeping because it would have been 10 times better.
I think our room had a flea problem or maybe even bedbugs because we itched and itched!
A magnificent outlook towards Notre Dame and the little garden across the road called Square Viviani was the only saving grace.
We were on the first floor(one above ground) but there is only an ancient wooden stairs to the other rooms above - I think we were in what is called the Annexe.
You can do better unless you like to rough it!

I just received confirmation from Hotel de Champ du Mars that they are completely booked during our time there :( Oh well! I would also like to add to the list Hotel Sainte Pierre - has anyone stayed there?

We are also looking into a few nice apartment rentals...or if anyone else can sugget anything similar, I'd greatly appreciate it!

If you are still looking - try the budget but very clean Hotel Perryve, Rue Madam. Right next to the Luxebourg Gardens.

Hotel St Pierre:

be sure you're looking at this one:
4 rue Ecole de Médecine, Paris 75006
because there is a Comfort St Pierre in Montmartre, more expensive but mixed comments..

Hi, we liked this hotel in the 5th. Near the Pantheon and Jardin de Luxemburg but not far from the Seine. Very clean and friendly - and inexpensive. http://www.hotelsorbonne.com/

Avoid the Esmeralda at all costs!

When we visited Paris, we stayed at Hotel de la Bourdonnais, because it had a gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower from its little balcony. It was a quad room, 503, about $225/night two years ago.

We saw two very pretty boutique hotels on Ille St. Louis that were side by side, and they looked like perfect honeymoon hotels. I have the brochures filed somewhere, and can't remember the exact names, but I think one is Hotel Lutece (??). Maybe another Fodorite can help me here.

Also, we had our favorite meal on Ille St. Louis, at Le Caveau de l’Isle, at 36 rue Saint-Louis en l’Isle. Great menu, with a three-course fixed prix around 30 EU. Excellent and friendly service. Small and atmospheric place.

Good luck searching Paris. There are lots of reasonably priced hotels there. Ira always recommend the Hotel Bonaparte, for instance.
