escorted and independent?
 

Is it possible to take an escorted tour to Italy- fly into Rome, spend 2 days, go escorted to Florence, 1-2 days, rent a car and do Siena and San G. etc. in Tuscany and then get to Venice and hook up with a walking tour?

Well, a Fodorites' trip could do that (grin)...

Probably couldn't involve me then, but there are others on this board who are probably as qualified as I am (or much more) to set it up.

I would be willing to provide some guidance, if asked.

What exactly are you looking for that you are thinking "escorted" tour. Are you relying on someone else to tell you what to see and take you there? Rome and Florence are not difficult towns to navigate on your own, or to find your way (an easy train trip) on your own between the two.
