ERICE hotel dilemma!

Hi all,

Was about to book La Pineta for a stay in late June, when I noticed that it doesn't have a/c! The only place that seems to have it is Hotel Elimo.

My questions: is it comfortable in Erice in the summer without a/c and is La Pineta OK? Or should I go with the Elimo?

Thanks for your feedback!

Andre

Bear in mind that Erice sits at over 2,000 ft. asl, so temperature is quite a bit cooler (15 degrees F.) than in Trapani or Palermo.

While that sounds good in theory, GAC, we were in Erice during the day at the end of June and nearly died of the heat (and we're from South Florida). While waiting for the bus, we desperately looked for an air conditioned place to get inside, but couldn't find one. We sat in a square in the shade and had cool drinks while the sweat rolled down us. Now I know it probably cools down in the evening, but it sure was hot that day!!!

Thanks for the heads up, Patrick - the Elimo it is!

Anybody have recent experience staying there?

Andre

Andre we were in Sicily last June (mid-month) and it was hot as Hades and very humid to boot. Granted, there was a heatwave at that time so it was probably hotter than the norm. Even though as GAC noted Erice will be cooler than the some other spots, if you are bothered by the heat I would still book with a/c. Many restaurants and shops don't have air conditioning and believe me you will be so grateful for a cool room at the end of the day. I say go with a/c - at worst you won't use it.

Of course, if it's 95 degrees in Trapani and 80 degrees in Erice, you would still welcome an air conditioned room!

Hi there!
Can anyone recommend anywhere else to stay in Erice? Perhaps a small pension, less expensive than the hotel Elimo (at 212 Euro/night)?

Wow, GAC, I know that I usually agree with you on most matters, but are you actually trying to tell us that it is normally 15 degrees cooler in Erice than in Trapani??? It's only 2000 feet, not 20,000 feet you know. Incidentally the day after our sweltering experience in Erice, we walked all over Palermo and ended up at Monreale all afternoon. For some reason it seemed cool by comparison to Erice the day before, but maybe that was just an odd two days.

Although Erice is a beautiful town....to visit...there is little to do there, few locals around, but many tourists, and inconvienient (sp) for visiting the surrounding areas...I would stay in a hotel down at the coast, with a pool and a/c.

Visited there for a few hours last year and thought Hotel Moderna was really cute!Erice is adorable too!

I might be wrong about the difference in temperature between Trapani and Erice. However, when I visited Trapani and Erice at Eastertime, I'm pretty certain that the temperature in Erice was at least 15 degrees cooler, as I nearly froze in Erice.
