Erfurt at night???

I have to go to Erfurt(Germany) from India.

As there is no international airport in erfurt, my flight will land in Frankfurt. after which i would take the train upto the erfurt Hbf. The problem is that, i would land in frankfurt by evening. the train distance to erfurt is roughly 2 hrs. so it makes 10 p.m when i actually reach erfurt. After which i have to locate my students hostel (i already have the street name).

Can anyone suggest me if its safe for a girl to travel in Erfurt at night after getting off from the Hbf.
or maybe i should spend the night at frankfurt airport and catch a later train in the morning??? pretty confused here. would appreciate any timely help :)

p.s. what is the best way to reach frankfurt hbf from the airport and cheap too?

Yes, it is safe.

For train connections from Frankfurt airport to Erfurt go to www.bahn.de and plug in FROM: Frankfurt airport TO: Erfurt Hbf

You do not have to go to Frankfurt HBF to catch a train. Depending on departure time, there are ICE trains that goes from the Airport to Erfurt without changing a train.

Frankfurt airport has two railroad stations.

1.Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf - serves long distance trains like ICE that goes to Erfurt without changing the train. You take a long walkway to get to the station located on the otherside of the highway. Many people from the airport do the same thing.

2. Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Regionalbf - serves local destination such as downtown Frankfurt (Frankfurt HBF) using commuter trains. This one is located directly below the airport itself. This might get you quicker to Frankfurt HBF, but I think you end up taking the same train that you would have taken from the FernBF. So I think this is more complexity without clear benefits.

I am not sure where the hostel is in Erfurt, but maybe you would treat yourself to a short cab ride from the train station (there should always be cabs there) to the hotel. It saves you wandering through the night and maybe getting lost and frustrated.

First of all, it is safe to go out at night in Erfurt. It is even fun, since it is a picturesque historical town.

However, if you have baggage, it might be a better idea to take a taxi. The ride will be short and the fare will not excede 10 €. There might be a public bus connection which is cheaper, but you have to find out lines and stops and the busses do not run that often in the evening.
