Equidistant Rome and Sorrento

We'll be in Sorrento in September at the same time as friends will be in Rome. We'd like to get together for lunch to compare notes and are looking for a location between the two places to meet.

Any suggestions on somewhere easily accessible by public transport from either direction? Hopefully the journey and the destination would enhance our travel experience. Terracina shows up on my map as about equidistant. This will most likely only be a day trip. Are we being too ambitious?

Thanks.

Doug - The most equidistant by public transport would be FORMIA.

[Terracina is much nearer Rome, and would be inconvenient from Sorrento as there's no direct train from Naples].

Alternatively, you could do worse than meet in Naples - 70 mins from Sorrento, 1hr 45' from Rome.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Hi doug,

I agree with Rex. It's as easy for them to get to Naples from Rome as it is for you to get there from Sorrento.

An alternative if you want to do some sightseeing might be Caserta - where you could visit the Palazzo Reale ...

P.S. Ira - now I'm really ... irate!

Formia is certainly the best choice. It's a pleasant town on the main railway between Napoli and Roma, with trains a least every hour to either city. The only slight drawback is that the station is uphill from the town centre and harbour, so you'll have to walk uphill after your lunch, but it's not a long walk.

Thanks, Steve, Ira and Geoff.

Just what I needed.

Steve and Ira, I hope you overcome your differences
