Good article, and it's about time or Venice will be no more!
Now if they just get off their butts and do something soon and not "politic" it for the next 10 years

I saw footage of Venice on the news last night and St. Marks is completely under water.

There's an article in this month's Conde Nast Traveller about Venice and it's flooding season. Apparently many tourists plan to visit during the annual floods and enjoy putting on high rubber boots (available from the hotels) and take a stroll through St. Mark's Square. The article also has a detailed description of the plan to alleviate the problem. Has anyone here been to Venice during the aqua alta?

Good evening, Susan was in Venice
6Nov00 and that afternoon the sirens
blew, the water starte to rise in Pza.S
Marco, but the time it stopped about 8pm
there was over a meter of water in the Pza and our hotel about two blocks away
has about 6 inches in the lobby. A lot
of ristorantes were closed, but the
LaCaravella did put out a meal for patrons and served by waiters in hip
boots,about nine oclock that evening..
Personally enjoyed the experience and
the abilities of the LaCaravella.
Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..
