Entry to CT to be limited this summer

Just saw on the news that due to the massive overpopulation of the CT by tourists, including those from the large tour boats, the government will limit the number of visitors to 1.5 million this summer. (Last summer there were 2.5 million visitors.) This is due to damage being done to the World Heritage Site by the massive numbers pouring through every day.

Apparently there will be entry by ticket only - and the tickets will be distributed in advance (no details yet on how this will happen).

Not sure how they will pull this off for this summer given the very short time, but apparently the officials involved believe this to be a crisis situation and that they need to strictly limit access to prevent destruction of the area.

Probably a good idea. I've never visited in the summer - only in September or October. I wonder if they will limit entry in the fall too? It was pretty crowded even then.

Hi Nytraveler,

Thank you very much.

I did not quite manage to understand, when will it start? from which month?

As far as it said this will be the limit for the entire year.

Just saw this confirmed in the Guardian - but presumably the Italian news sources will have more info.
