Entrance to Louvre
i haven't been in the Louvre in a long time but will be there, if briefly, with my 6 yr old granddaughter next week. I've forgotten; where is the entrance that does not have the long line to enter? Thank you!

How long has it been? You might not recognize the place in any way shape or form.

It's probably been 8-10 years since I was inside.
|
We have had good luck entering from Rue Di Rivoli and going down the stairs to the ticket Kiosks.
|
The subterrean entrance of the metro that stop at the Louvre. has many galleries, shops, internet cafe..is the best way to enter the Museum without waiting in a long line.
|
I second Kismetchimera's suggestion. There is a security check you must go through, but we have never seen a significant line at this entrance.
:-) |
Check the Frommer's guidebook. I think they give you a tip there.
|
The entrance from the Metro sounds good; thanks, all!
|
The entrance in the passage Richelieu, coming off of the rue de Rivoli, is normally not crowded. We used it last week, midweek, early afternoon. There was no line. At the same time, the pyramid line for tickets was quite long.
|
We used the same entrance that hmmm mentions (Passage Richelieu) - more or less by accident - on a late Friday afternoon (Louvre is open late on Wednesdays and Fridays). We were inside in about a minute.

Grandmere, I think a fun way for your granddaughter to enter the Louvre would be from one of the entrances on either side of the Arc du Carrousel; they lead down to the mall, and you can walk through that -- seeing the upside-down pyramid on the way, and looking at all the shops. Plus it is, as I believe has been said above, an easy way to get there, with usually only a short security line.

I used the entrance that is mentioned here in december - no line at all...Enjoy!
|
Good advice above.
I'll only add that if you go later in the day (when the museum is open late on Weds and Fri) you will likely not find a line at the Pyramid entrance as well. Two Fridays ago I was there at about 5 pm, no line. |
The entrance by the Arc du Carrousel sounds even better, or going through the Pyramid on Wed. or Fri. evening. Thanks for all the good advice, folks!

I was there with my sister on Sunday morning at 10 (the Louvre opens at 9) and went right in at the Pyramid. If we had gone at another time the other entrances mentioned would be preferred. There is a discount for tickets after 6 pm and, of course, your granddaughter goes in for free.
Have a hot chocolate at Angelina's after your Louvre visit. Enjoy!!!! |
Go down inside the Carosel de Louvre shopping mall. There is never a line at that entrance.
|
I'm something of a naysayer on Angelina's hot chocolate, which is so rich I find anything more than a tablespoonful upsets my stomach. Hard to imagine a six-year-old surviving it. Also, the atmosphere is so formal, it also depends on whether the six year old is that kind of six year old.
here are pix for those who haven't been: http://image50.webshots.com/50/6/70/...5OtOFnI_ph.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3263/...0c2597.jpg?v=0 http://www.flickr.com/photos/aga_mum/2776803638/ |
Angelina is a tradition for my daughter and me, so we will definitely go there with granddaughter, who is "that kind of six year old." I agree, the hot chocolate is over the top, but one serving will probably be ordered--and drunk! Le Mont Blanc has long been my carb overload of choice. :-)
