ENGLAND- Where to stay between ARUNDEL and BRIGHTON??
Hello again,
i do believe i've never spent so much time planning a trip as this one! i've cut out a lot that was on my previous itineraries so now before I go to London I'm heading from Bath to Arundel Castle (with a stop in Chawton and possibly HIghclere along the way). Here's my big problem- I was hoping to spend the night in Arundel and drive to Brighton the following morning to drop off my car and get a train to London, but EVERYTHING is booked due to some festival. I figured I would just drive straight to Brighton after visiting Arundel and spend one night to relax (not my ideal place) but i'm having an issue of it falling on a Saturday and no one wants to book us for just one night. There doesn't seem to be a dropoff for my car any closer to Arundel than Brighton, so do any of you have any recommendations on a place to stay that's in between? thanks again in advance for all your help! best, k |
Chichester is near Arundel and is a historic old city with a cathedral and some kind of ancient famous cross or town pole - well-equipped regional town.

Chichester also has the famous Festival Theatre. Of course the festival may be the reason for Arundel being booked up and if so the same will apply to Chichester.

why not just motor over to Gatwick Airport and return your car and be right in London that night or stay in Crawley, a nice town near Gatwick with many B&Bs and hotels.
|
How about Lewes? As long as you avoid November 5th it's a really in nice place.
|
Interesting, I posted a while ago suggesting Lewes and it didn't take. In any case, as Havana has mentioned, it's a pretty place with a very interesting old town center and not far beyond your target.

Since Arundel won't work and Brighton requires 2 nights - think about what is possible.
The easiest place to return the car is either at Gatwick or Heathrow. So you could either 1) stay the night near Chawton, then the next day visit Arundel and drive on to LGW to drop the car and train in to London. or 2) probably even easier - drive from Bath to Arundel, visit the castle, then drive north to near Chawton and stay the night. Visit the Austen property and then drop the car at LHR. |
