Forgot to say that one of the nice things that happened was that we met up with darling Florida1 and her handsome husband for drinks in the Commodore Room, along with our friends, for a mini GTG, (though our friends are not Fodorite, they certainly have traveled the world and lived in Japan, Saudi Arabia, India, and heaven know where else, so they could be!)
We met again for drinks another evening, and heard all about their mind-bending Round the World trip, of which this crossing was the first part. I can't wait to see and read her trip report! |
Wonderful report. I'm getting ready to reread it.
Looking forward to Part II! |
Thanks, Lantana, for your kind words. It's been too hot and humid to think, but I hope to get to it tomorrow?
|
Don't know how I missed this but just want to thank you and let you know I so enjoyed reading!
The ship actually has swimming pools??!! For someone who might possibly be interested in a first transAtlantic cruise, would the QM2 be the best choice? |
ekscrunchy,
I don't know about "best" but QM2 would be a terrific choice for your first transatlantic crossing, most definitely! Daniel |
Our only experience, but since the Atlantic is a speciality of the QM2, i'd say it would be a good choice. Very very stable. No need for seasick remedies. We loved as you can see.

Off topic but just to thank you for the recommendation about the Cholmondeley Arms in Cheshire. We went there today for lunch as it's just 40 miles away and it was perfect, a great British pub with excellent food.
|
Oh, that's great, tjhome. It sure is a fun place. We were there once before many years ago, and it has gone way up-market and is very busy.
|
Forgot to ask, are you on holiday near there?
|
No, we live in Manchester and we took the back roads - took an hour and a half to get there. I guessed that if someone as well travelled as you liked it then it was bound to be good - and I love the idea of it having over 100 different gins now.
|
Yes, ioo gins is formidable! Apparently, it is therefore very bad form to ask for (generic) "gin and tonic."
