England to Caen
 

I am looking into flying between London and Caen France instead of taking the ferry or the eurostar.
Where can I find information and book tickets?

Only non-stop flights into the Caen airport are from Lyon, from what I can find. Not going to be convenient from the UK.

Your alternative is to fly to Paris, but then you must just as well train the whole way.

The website www.itasoftware.com can help you see what the going prices are and which airlines serve Caen (airport code FRC). [click the orange "looking for airfares?" upper right, then click "enter as guest" leaving the logon entries blank.]

I can't find any convenient flight from London to Caen or any nearby places. The closest is Stansted to Dinard (near St Malo) or Paris CDG from Luton or Heathrow, but both require rail connections with at least one change, taking a minimum of over 3 hours.
If you add the journey to and from airports, it will probably be just as quick and less stressful taking Eurostar.

I suppose you could try flying from Southampton to Cherbourg or Rennes on www.flybe.com - then catch a train.

The easiest and most direct route is by ferry from Portsmouth. Book a cabin on the overnight service, get a train from London at about eight, and arrive in Caen the next morning.

w/ the rest of your itinerary in mind (only 5 days in France/Paris) I don't see how an overnight ferry will work, and there aren't any flights.

If you are going to squeeze Normandy in, the only way that really works is as a day trip from Paris. Otherwise you'll have to cut some time from the London end of the itinerary - and I don't think that works considering what all you are seeing in the UK.

This is what I have come up with.
We will travel via train to Portsmouth on Monday August 28.We will spend the day in Portsmouth and then take the overnight ferry to Caen.
In Caen , we will go to the Caen Peace Museum .Is there any thing else to do in Caen without a car?
From Caen , we will be going to the the colonel's B&B to spend the night and tour with him the next day.

It always depends on your interests but for Caen:

1) The remains of it's castle (quite extensive)

2)The Abbaye-Aux-Hommes William the Conquerer's resting place

3) The Abbaye-Aux-Dames ( Maltida's, William's wife, counterpart.

I am totally confused about what to do.
I want to see the Caen peace Museum and have booked the Colonel for the D-D- Tour.I have changed some items on my schedule and now have Monday August 28,Tuesday August 29 and Wednesday August 30 available.
What form of transportation is the best to get from London to Caen?
Train-Plane or Ferry.If we take the ferry , it is a very long trip from London ,including the train from London to Portsmouth.I am now leaning towards the train . If we take the train on Monday August 28, should we go directly into Caen with our luggage or should we go to the hotel monday night and take the train Tuesday AM and spend the day at the Caen Peace Museum and then spend the night with the colonel and tour on Wednesday and go back to paris Wednesday evening?

I can't believe there is any quicker way of getting from London to Caen than the overnight ship: you'll have a day in London, then a day in Normandy, and the journey will be spent asleep.
From Caen to Bayeux is a doddle - about 20 minutes by train. If you get the ship from Portsmouth to Caen, there is a connecting bus from the ferry terminal to Caen station

There used to be scheduled flights from London Stansted (STN) and Caen (CFR), but I'm unable to find any today. We did it in 2002. As I recall, the Caen Peace Museum is out in the boonies - do you have transportation lined up?

In town, I'd follow historytraveler's advice re the castle and abbayes.
