From Amboise you also have mini-bus tours that take you to the chateau or chateaux-in day or half-day tours of 2-3 chateaux.
There are dozens of balloon rides from Amboise. Just Google and check them out.

A day trip to Le Mont St-Michel is at least a 16-hour venture. I would plan to stay overnight.>
Well yes it takes about 3 hours by TGV and coordinated bus - each way- that's six hours at least in transit- best to stay overnight when the island is rather deserted and takes on a surreal magic. But if only can do as day trip - it's possible but really as St-Cirq says try to stay overnight- there is a gaggle of inexpensive hotels on the mainland at the end of the causeway and a few not so cheap ones right on the island.

In July and August there is a special tour of the abbey with special effects (if the same as I saw several years ago) - another reason for staying.
This site also gives hotel info.

Hi PALENQUE as per yr suggestion I will cancel Blois and head to AMBOISE..found 2 balloon rides 28kms from Blois in Contres but as u say Amboise is better and Blois is nothing special will change plans and hire Motgolfiere in Amboise for the Balloon ride,
ALREADY bought tkt BUE PARIS-LONDON BUE... after Amboise I will do base in Cannes not Nice..and take train to Nice and Monaco for bike tours
the Train to Avignon for a day tour from there to La Provence with PROVANS-Tours or Prestige Tours
THEN go to PARIS...will cancel Normandie/St Michel and plant to do
2 day trips..one to BURGUNDY with Viator (do u suggest othe than Viator?) and the 2nd day wasnt sure about going to Champagne..not interested in wine tasting or wineries I loved the pictures of the tour ..staying in Paris 09-12 June...leaving 12 june early morning..as I dont like doing tours with my carry on..I was planning once arrived in london to do 2 day trips. Canterbury with White Cliffs and Dover and the other would then asu suggest go to YORK for the day
Await yr feedback...!! I have already booked hotels...(free cancellation!)
Cheers and thank you very much

Canterbury with White Cliffs and Dover>
I love it -very few do this day trip - Dover Castle is IMO one of the finest in Europe-the town itself rather boring but the cliffs -be sure to go up to the top and Canterbury for its great cathedral- see if railways still have unlimited Kent Rover tickets.

Hi PalenquQ found a tour with Andersons but only Saturdays and SUndays but Golden tours. have obe that does Leeds, Canterbury, Dover and White Cliffs.
If I go by train solo I wont be able to do everything and would be on my own.
I might do solo York and hope to find a free walking tour around York.
AMBOISE..I am staying 1 night for the air balloon flight but it is so diffcult to find answers..and is rather complicated to move around I am arriving Amboise centre al 2120hs!..do u thinkit is too late? I have the 30th to visit the castle and then do the air balloon flight ..but I cant get answers and is hard making a trip by train..then I go to Cannes and have to take a 0641am train?
Do you think I can WALK to/from the station? Staying at Villa Roma.. says it is nearby but it is a 20mins walk..(?)... thank you for yr feedback

Tour makes sense for all dthat and that is Leeds Castle not Leeds, a city far to the north.

talking about Amboise -station is about a mile or a bit less from town- far for some but not for others.

Why do you have to take that early a train -you have to go back to Paris- I'd take regional train to Paris Austerlitz (not TGV via St Pierre-des-Corps) as from Austerlitz you can walk over the Seine bridge right to Gare du Lyon for frequent trains to Cannes and Nice - taking about 5-6 hours from Paris -Amboise to Paris about 1.5 hours.

Amboise(St-Pierre) dep 07:45 TER60003 Train Express Regional
St-Pierre-des-Corps arr 07:59
Transfer time 15 min.
St-Pierre-des-Corps dep 08:14 TGV 8402 TGV Direction: Paris Montparnasse
Paris Montparnasse arr 09:18
transfer 50 min.
Continue by Metro, change at Chatelet
Adjust the transfer timeParis Gare de Lyon dep 10:19 TGV 6175 TGV Duplex Direction: Nice Ville
Cannes arr 15:34
Here is the trains you probably are looking at -but leaves 7:45 from Amboise this says - several transfers but other trains via Austerlitz though slower would mean just one easy change of trains and stations in Paris. But apparently would take longer.

thank you PALENQ I found a train (didnt know the difference between regional and TGV) I am not fmailiar with transfers..I now leave
Amboise at 0808.... stop of 23mins in Orleans..and yes I realize Austerlitz and Lyon are one in front of the other so I take train from Paris to Cannes..arriving with daylight and hotel in Cannes is 4 blocks from train station....
31 MAY
AMBOISE PAR 0808 1034
PAR CANNES 1419 1932
what do u think?
I WILL POST THIS QUESTION..
5 JUNE I wanted to do the one day trip to Provence with PROVANSTOURS yellow tour from AVIGNON ..but they havent yet people for that day.
VIATOR has another about same price..but they do not do ARLES..they do LUBERON..and lavender distillery instead of wine tasting (I am not a regular wine drinker so rather have the lavender distillery that does Viator)
But Provanstours yellow tour does not do Luberon
What would u choose.???
.LUBERON instead of ARLES ?
that is the difference..and Viator operates with a local provence tour operator..PROVANS probably haas less public but it was highly recommended..andis operated by 2 locals..
here are the links

Yes that is nice - regional trains to Orleans and then to Paris-Austerlitz
cross Seine Pont Charles DeGaulle to Paris Gare du Lyon station - lots of time - takes at most 10 minutes walk - quicker than taking metro between the two.
Good choice. Book ticket for Paris to Cannes in advance at www.voyages-sncf.com for discounted tickets (non-changeable non-refundable I think).

the Amboise to Paris Austerlitz train can be bought in Amboise though though there could be a small savings doing so in advance- check it out but if just a few euros escape the severe restrictions -you can make an optional seat reservation though most do not and you can always board with a valid ticket even if seats are full (not unusual in 2nd cl at rush hours going to Paris and coming from Paris).

Easy to do on your own by train.

Well instead of Bruges simply because of the distance and time to Bruges - Mont-Saint-Michel is to me so so special it is hard to recommend against it even though it will cost more and take all day.

Yup - the bus can't take too long to go around Monaco which has little specific to see except its yacht club and fancy casino - forget the hop on off bus there IMO.
Total a regular public bus to Eze. And then to Nice - lovely ride on one of the corniche roads (that run high up on the cliffs).
