England Rental Car question

Hi

We rent a car in Europe at least once a year and always use AutoEurope. On their site, I've been looking at our trip where we will pick up a car in Liverpool and drop off in Cambridge.

They offer two pick up locations in Liverpool, and they are both fairly far from our hotel. We will probably have to taxi to a rental in any case, but mapping sites show both of these pick up locations at over 20 minutes away by car.

There are several rental places much closer to our hotel. I wonder who others use in England for rentals with drop-offs in second locations.

I see that Sixt has an office near our hotel.

Any recommendations? Any special things to consider when renting in England? We have rented in England maybe four times before, but always used AutoEurope.

I, too, have used AutoEurope in the past. But found Avis more convenient for my pickup location and less expensive for my next visit. You might have a look.

I used to use Hertz (company discount) but the last time I rented in England, admittedly back in 2004, I used Enterprise. They picked me up and dropped me off at Durham train station.

I know some people have had good experiences with gemut.com, but don't know if that would work for England.

What is the usual fee for renting in one location and returning to another in the UK?

I'm not sure about the usual fee, but the last time we did it, we picked up at York RR and dropped off in some crazy industrial park in Liverpool. We travel on a lowish budget, so it couldn't have been too much.

Most of the time I haven't had a drop off fee, but I have occasionally - mostly when using Hertz. But most of my AutoEurope bookings haven' charged a fee (even w/ Hertz)

I think drop off fees are becoming more common though.

Sometimes I see a 50 drop charge but it has only been higher (by 10X) when I picked up in one country and dropped in another (Switzerland and Amsterdam.) Flights were already booked - definitely a learning experience for me.

Another vote for enterprise. Their rates are pretty good and the pick-up service is excellent.
