Oxenholme is tiny , you just get off the main line train and cross the platform to the Windermere train.

Preston station is fairly straightforward, around 6 platforms all in a linear layout with a pedestrian bridge which takes you to each platform. Very easy to navigate.

@bilbo - oh, I was just addressing the Windermere to Liverpool leg, sorry. (Actually, I quite like the NR site, but you do have to be careful about which station(s) you ask about.)

annhig & ta3153: I'm (fingers well and truly crossed) going to catch up with you! Just got off the phone with American Airlines and found out the voucher I got for my cancelled trip will stretch a lot farther now. Booked through AAVacations it was originally Business to LHR, Economy Plus back home, and 4 nights at the Royal Horseguards. My new December dates (like I said - fingers crossed the trip can happen) will now cover Business both ways and four nights at the bleedin' Savoy :D Not a suite for sure but still a bucket list item.

Janis: Will keep my fingers crossed that your trip is a go for December. I’m sure you’ll love The Savoy! Be sure to go to the Beaufort Bar while you’re there and sip champagne while listening to the live music. The American Bar was still closed when we were there, but should be open by the time you are there. It’s worth a visit to watch the bartenders at work and to people watch whether you have a cocktail or a mocktail.

So far, thanks to all the great advice from this forum, we have done well with the trains. Hope that continues tomorrow as we head for Liverpool with 2 changes.

That's great news, JJ. 4 nights at the Savoy - be still my beating heart. I only stayed there for one night but I went there on several occasions when there were train strikes in London so I had to get there extremely early to beat the traffic. While I was waiting for the courts to open their doors I would treat myself to breakfast at the Savoy. Looking back I'd probably have done better to stay there as well!

ooh -- I totally forgot you are in the UK now. Having a great trip I hope. I have had Champagne there a handful of times but the last time I was in the American Bar was probably 15+ years ago. Probably closer to 20 years. Is the chocolate shop still in the lobby?

Hi annhig -- we were posting at the same time. If I lived or worked in London I'd be broke with frequent breakfasts at the Savoy or the Wolseley and lunches all over

The chocolate shop was not open when I was there, but I suspect it will be soon. Kasper’s has closed for good. Gordon Ramsey will be opening a seafood restaurant in that space on October 11.

I think you’ll get a kick out of this. We usually take Heathrow Express from LHR then taxi to our hotel. But, I have lots of Accor points so decided to use them to have a car and driver from The Savoy pick us up. Driver pulled up in a Rolls Royce! Not bad for free.

(Just a hint for next time -- the HEX + a cab is seldom the best mode to anywhere except for Paddington itself or maybe Bayswater/Queensway area. It is cheaper and is usually faster to just take a pre-booked car service from LHR Arrivals straight to your hotel . . . Of course that isn't for when you have a private Rolls ;) )
