England in April

I am considering a trip to England during
the second week of April (Easter week). I'm
trying to get an idea what the weather will be
and if nature is turning green yet. My points
of interest will be London for 3-4 days and then on up to the lake district for 3-4 days.

I'm thinking that it will be close to my New England type weather, but are things turning green yet? Thanks for any input.

You will find the UK is much more temperate than New England. Things are fairly green almost year round. By April everything is usually quite lush and lots of things will be in bloom . . . .

We were in London mid-March last year and the trees were beginning to flower and the daffodils were blooiming. It was quite pretty.

billj4, climate data can be found at:

http://www.usatoday.com/weather/reso...e/worldcli.htm

You can compare London to wherever you are in NE. The average high (55)is the same as Worcester and the average low is 41 compared to 35.

Because the winters are less severe, spring comes earlier. In the third week of March, 2003 the daffodils were in full blossom in London but many natives told us it was a particularly mild late winter.

We also had snow one year in the second week of May. Hey, sounds like NE.

Lots of information at www.weatheronline.co.uk - Check out the features by Philip Eden. April 2003 was the warmest since 1987.

Lake District - dress in layers and be prepared for pop up showers.

Last year we arrived in England on April 21--everything was quite green and spring bulbs were blooming, especially lovely in the parks. We couldn't believe how beautiful the hanging baskets of annuals were all over the city. It was a lovely time of year to go.

Some days were quite sunny and warmer while others were sunny and cooler. We wore lightweight flannel-lined raincoats most of the time. Had extra sweaters with us but we didn't really need them until we got to parts of Ireland and Scotland.
