Left Luggage

There are several places in York where you can leave your luggage whilst enjoying the city. The left luggage has moved from Platform 1 at the railway station to Queen Street. Lockers are also available at the National Railway Museum near the railway station and at Europcar.>

This from the York Tourist Information Centre site - the left luggage I was on about was the one on Platform 1 - not sure where Queen Street is but the National Railway Museum is adjacent to the York train station practically.

So there is left luggage but not right in the station as before.

We plan to spend 4 days in London, 1 day in Bath and 2 days in Edinburgh
I know no matter how much you spend is always less but with a one week constraint we would like to hit the major destinations and visit again in few years.

4/1/2 = more than a week . . . you aren't allowing for travel time. Generally to get a full day in a place you need two nights.

And does your week include flying to/from the UK? If so, you'll have less 5 full days on the ground.

If you want to see a wee bit of England outside cosmopolitan London consider a day trip to say Oxford or Cambridge - either of these unique famous delightful uni towns could be the highlight of your trip! Quite close to London by train (Oxford also viable by bus).

Not if you only have 4 days in London and at least one of them jet lagged.

OK -- 7 days on the ground -- that is better. But it is still only 6.5 days. So you <i>could</i> squeeze in all three but you'll end up w/ 3.5 days in London, about 3/4 of a day in Bath and 1 day in Edinburgh.

Your main problem is Bath and Edinburgh are in opposite ends of the UK so you will use up a whole day getting from Bath to London (if you go by train) or much of a day (if you go to Bristol and fly up).

If you only have a week -- I'd either do London 4.5 days and Edinburgh 2 days fly in to London and hoe from Edinburgh. It is a bit over 4 hours from London to Edinburgh by train.

London 5-ish days and Baths 1.5 days. fly in/out of LHR. There is an express coach between LHR and Bath so you could easily do Bath then London, or London then Bath.

Trains take all of 1 h 25 minutes Bath to London - I know days can be short at times in England but that is hardly much of a day!

Bath to Edinburgh would take much of a day.

I mis-spoke. I meant the Bath and Edinburgh are on opposite ends of the country and that Bath <u>to Edinburgh</u> would take much of a day . . .

But in the context . . there simply isn't enough time for London and Bath and Edinburgh . . .

janis dear - I agree - I'd drop Bath and just spend their precious time in London and Edinburgh or if they really wanted to see Bath and you know how special it is - they could do it as a day trip from London, it being so close by train.

But yes I agree less is more in this case.

The overnight train to Edoinburgh from London would maximize their time to the max! But overnight trains are not for all - light sleepers may arrive dazed and confused - but I've taken those Caledonian Sleeprs several times and if you splurge for a private compartment it is a very luxurious night train - breakfast served in bed in the morning.
