I am traveling to England next year. Any advice for a one week trip to London? Thanks. havent been there since 1983.

Interest, when in the year, anyone with you?

First get a guidebook, read the Destination section of this website, click on the United Kingdom and read some of the thousands of threads about England/London. Then come back w/ some details about yourself/the sorts of things you enjoy, when you are visiting, and specifically what sorts of info you are seeking (hotels, sites, transport, budget, whatever)

Thanks, I am traveling with my husband and 28 year old son. I love history and museums. I remember seeing awesome musicals/plays while I was there, Really would like advice on hotels, restaurants and if you know of any local guides.

It doesn't offer private tours (as far as I know) but there's London Walks www.walks.com. Many tour options there.

Have you considered renting an apartment instead of staying in a hotel? It's nice to have a kitchen if just for breakfast and snacks and it's nice to have the extra space.

If you want hotel recommendations, you need to specify a budget and what you want: a double room and a single room? a triple room?

Wonderful -- free -- museums in London and of course lots of history, lots of theater. The guidebooks will tell you all about that.

If you're here for a week, get 7-day travelcards for zones 1 and 2. You'd have to pay a small supplement if you're travelling in and out of Heathrow, since that's on the edge of London. There are any number of threads about using the 2for1 offers run by the national rail companies (not Transport for London). If any of the attractions on the 2for1 list are of interest to you, it might pay you to get your travelcard from a national rail station (rather than the Underground, though you will be able to use it on the Underground and buses just the same):
