Thanks! I carried the ring in a money belt - the kind that has a loop to put your actual belt through, then hangs inside your pants. It ended up being no problem at all - I went straight through security. Of course, I kept checking every few minutes to make sure it was still there!

First, congrats! Second, when you added the ring to your homeowners, you did add it SEPARATELY correct? And provided them with a appraisal?

The reason I ask is I've had jewelry on our policy seperate for years. My husband nags (when he sees the bill)that I should cancel it due to the cost. We call it our annual "insurance dance". We argue, (nothing serious), I present my case and never cancel.

In Dec. of 07', I lost my diamond tennis bracelet. The policy I have covers the cost of REPLACEMENT. I was able to get a new bracelet 2 carats larger than the old one at NO cost to me. :)

I met a woman at the jewelry store who had just lost her diamond ring. It was only on her policy, not listed individually. They were giving her $1500 for a one carat stone. She was VERY sad.

INSURE, INSURE, INSURE!

I don't know what the policy is called in other states but in California it is a Personal Property Floater Policy.

The policy list and describes the items(s). The insurance company requires an appraisal from a qualified jeweler. The item(s) is/are covered per the value on the appraisal. The coverage is much broader then coverage for jewelry under a Homeowners or Renters policy. For example if the stone falls out of the ring and is not found there is coverage. If the ring mysteriously dissappears there is coverage. Under the Homeowners or Renters policy there is a maximum coverage for jewerly and a maximum coverage for each piece of jewelry. So if one has expensive jewelry there is probably not adequate limits. And under the Homeowners or Renters policy the coverage is limited the same as all your other personal property coverage such as fire, vandalism, theft etc.
