They have not gotten back to me on their hold and cancel policy yet. Will ask about 1/2 board.

Train situation would be the same anywhere around the train station.

Thanks for the information.
|
Navenga is not near the train station but on the line toward Bellinzona (by the way, be SURE to go there).

For info in the area, check out my journal on www.igougo.com There are pictures.

Grasshopper did you happen to go thru Zernez? What did you think? Found a place that is reasonably priced, am waiting to hear back from a place off one of the sites you recommended.
|
Sorry, I haven't been to the Engadine yet. You should talk to Ingo about those places. He is our resident expert.
|
which place in Zernez?

I found Zernez to be not as charming as other Engadine villages (Guarda, Zuoz e.g.). It burnt down in the 19th century (I think) and lost a lot of old style houses, which where reconstructed in a rather modern style. It is a good base for day trips, though.

Ingo.

Chasa Veglia. Sent out an email to Val Tuoi in Guarda over the weekend and have not gotten a response from them.
Which would you pick? Want to keep the cost down, but want charm, clean and friendly.

We are not going to spend a lot of time in the area this trip. We are taking friends to Switzerland who will probably only be there once. Her step father is tomb stone is on our way back to Zurich from Engadine area. I am trying to hit the high spots, Murren, Locarno, Engadine, Lucerne. We have a daughter who lives in Zurich on the lake, so will use Zurich to see Bern and probably Appenzel area.

We on the other hand will probably be back as long as my daughter and husband continue to live there. He is bureau chief for Reuters in Switzerland and will use the trip to make plans to come bak to those areas we love the most. This will be our 5th trip to Switzerland in the last couple of years.

Booked at the Val Tuoi. Should I be booking the 1/2 board option. Seems a reasonable option if the food is good. Have you eaten there?
|
No, I did not eat there. I probably would not book 1/2 board option there, although I don't think you would fail with it.

There are three other great restaurants in Guarda: Ustaria Crusch-Alba, Hotel Meisser, Hotel Piz Buin (the cheapest of those). Maybe you can check the food the first evening in Val Tuoi and still opt for 1/2 board.

Lucky you to travel all these regions!!

Ingo

Thanks for your feedback! We have traveled over the northern part of Switzerland, to Bern, to Luzern a couple of times, Interlaken area and Wengen but never to southern Switzerland or to Engadine area. We are really looking forward to the visit even though short. Will come back another time when we are alone.

We really don't like to do the quick visit trip thing. We like to pick an area and stay a week or better and get to know a place but we are lining this trip up for our friends who will probably not be back anf they want to do it all.
