Engadin for Easter
 

Hello,
I will be spending 4 days/3nights in Brail, Engadin,
over Easter. I have a travel pass (Swiss Generalabonnement daily tickets) for Friday and
Monday which I'll use to travel from/to Geneva, but possibly also to explore the region on the day of arrival or on Monday before heading back.

Does anyone have suggestions how to make best use of these tickets?

In general, is the Swiss Generalabo, or even the Half fare card, valid on
the funicular to Muottas Muragl?
In winter time, is it worth going up Muottas Muragl? Or would you prefer to take the Bernina Express to Tirano if given the choice?

You know that Brail doesn't have direct access to the railway? There is a bus service from the railway station in either Cinuos-chel or Zernez (not sure).

I don't think you'll have much time on your arrival or departure day if you are travelling from/to Geneva: this is a long journey!

However, you should take the route via Landquart - Klosters (- Vereina Tunnel) for the train ride TO Brail and the other route via Samedan - (Albula -) Thusis - Chur on your way back. So you can see two different regions (both scenic).

Yes, the Half Fare Ticket is valid on the Muottas Muragl funicular. I think it is well worth to go there in winter, too, but a Bernina Express trip would be my choice - longer, more diverse scenery, maybe spring flowers in Tirano.

thanks for your reply. Yes I know that the train doesn't go to Brail, but I hope the bus will be OK. According to the SBB web site it seems reasonably frequent, at least for arrival and departure. Geneva-Brail takes about 5 1/2 to six hours, via Zernez/Landquart anyway.
Good idea to take another route back....
And thanks for your advice about Bernina.

The reason we stay in Brail is actually that I found a good hotel (half board) deal there. I thought as long as the bus goes there, it should be fine. We'll see later if a transport hub would have been a better idea....
Do you have any idea how long it would take to walk from Brail to Cinuos? The bus seems to take only a few minutes.

I think it is maybe a 20 or 30 minutes walk. But the buses run indeed quite frequently. Maybe your hotel offers to pick you up?

A problem might be to come back in the evening. I saw the latest bus runs from Zernez 5.30 pm or so, from Cinuos-chel yet a bit earlier.

Thanks a lot Ingo, I'm really looking forward to this trip now, after all the mouthwatering details that I have read at fodors.com! Somehow I already feel that I will need to go back there for a longer period during the summer....
