End of March -48 Hours in Paris
 

I plan to extend a business trip I have planned next week to Geneva. I've invited my 19 year old college freshman son to travel with me while he's on spring break. Our high level plan has us arriving into Geneva via Paris from the states. I have business on wed/thursday of the week and he'll bounce around downtown Geneva while I'm working. I was in Paris with my wife last September and loved it and wanted to share it with my son so we plan to take the train after my business concludes from Geneva to Paris on thursday and spend 2 full days in the city (Fri/ Sat) and fly out Sunday morning. We plan to stay near the Vendome in the 1st.

Looking for suggestions/ sites/itinerary's to see beyond the standard fare. We like music, good food and wine and like to hang out like the locals... Anything going on in Paris for the end of March?

What is "beyond the standard fare" for you? I take it you have all been to Paris many times before and so are looking for new conquests?

If you want to know what is going on in Paris at the end of March, you check the official Paris Tourist Office website and see what is happening and choose what appeals to you.

I would be interested in "new conquests". I was in Paris for the first time back in Sept last year so not too long ago. We visited the Eifel Tower, Notre Dame, D'Orsey, Tuileries. Did not go to Louvre, Montmartre, Luxembourg Gardens, Musee de l'Orangerie, Le Marais.

Has your son been to Paris or will this be his first visit? If he wants to do something like go up the Eiffel Tower would you like for him to have the opportunity to see it?

I wouldn't attempt the Louvre during such a short visit, perhaps the Orangerie or Rodin Museum. Sainte Chapelle on the Ile de la Cite is a stunning medieval chapel. After Sainte Chapelle you could head for Le Marais and the Place des Vosges.

I am trying to approach this obliquely... If you just open up any Paris guide books and look up top attractions listing, one interpretation of "standard fared," you will find many "standard fare" you have not listed, unless the four places you listed are not exhaustive.

I have numerous Paris travel guides and could easily open up the top 10. I guess my comments above where just a start. I understand that posting out here is akin to throwing darts from one end of a football field. It's hard to recommend beyond the top 10 as you do not know my likes/ dislikes. Let me be more specific:

When in Paris in September, I did not have an opportunity to visit a few areas:
Le Marais and Montmartre area. Are these good areas to explore/ dine/ shop? Any highlights? Are they safe and what are some sights to see? What are some good Bistros? Also, did not indulge in Crepes or Steak Frittes while visiting last fall. Any suggestions on some better places?

@Scootoir - Yes, we will most do the Eifel Tower. I'm planning on an Electric Bike tour of all the major monuments during day 1. Tour is planned to run 3-4 hours so he will get a great background to all the major sites. I was more interested in day 2 and going a bit deeper into exploring Paris.
