Emerald Grotto

Anyone taken a boat tour of the Emerald Grotto from Positano? I thought it might be a picturesque trip. How would you compare it tot eh Blue Grotto? Thanks

Aneckc,

I've taken this side trip in combination with a day long cruise of the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento. If you have nothing else to do and have plenty of time I suppose it would be ok. But if you are trying to decide if you should spend more time in one of the coastal towns or take a ride out for this grotto, stay and enjoy the town.

Depending on your interests, you may find a ride over to Paestum, which has some of the most in tact and oldest Greek temples around.

My husband & I wished we had spent more time in Positano or Ravello.

I've been to both Grottos and the Blue Grotto is by far better. It is most spectacular on a clear sunny day, about 10 or 11 in the morning. During the summertime, that's when the sun hits it just right for the most dramatic blue effect. The Emerald Grotto is nice, but if this is your first visit to the Amalfi Coast and time is limited, I'd skip it.

I just came back from Positano where we did the tour to the Emerald Grotto. It was okay, but nothing special. Didn't do the Blue Grotto so I can't compare.

The boat ride (till you switch to the rowboats) is the same route as going to the town of Amalfi; so if you take the ferry to Amalfi you'll have the same picturesque trip of the Coast, for less money.

If you do go, make sure you have an English speaking guide. Along the AC, there were some interesting structures on the side of the cliff that we would like to have known more about, but our guide didn't speak English so we didn't get any info about them.
