email communication while travelling
I am going to be travelling for almost a month in France and would like to keep in touch with my family by email. I realize that in the bigger centres like Nice and Lyon there will be internet cafes. I am concerned about the smaller places. I will be spending a week in Vence, a week in Lourmarin and 3 days in Annecy. What would be my best sources of internet access in those places-eg. library, post office, etc?

Hi Ira
In my experience, Europe has been way ahead of the US for years as far as Internet access is concerned. I have used local libraries in the past successfully. And more and more small hotels and inns have access, since they conduct business that way. |

Hi ita,
If you go to www.google.com and enter "internet cafes" you will get various guides, such as this one http://www.world66.com/netcafeguide |
PS,
When we were in Praiano (a very small town in Italy) we found an internet point. (It closed from 11:30 - 2:00.) |
We've never had any trouble finding some place to get on the internet; and often, it's a little adventure in itself. A bar in Carmona, Spain; a library in Stornaway, Western Isles, UK; a "business school" in Zafra, Spain; Internet Cafes in Gibraltar & Cadiz; an office equipment store in Garmish-P, Germany; Internet kioshs in various places. Ask around -- we've always found something during a lot of travel over the past five years.

You will have no problem finding internet cafes everyplace you are going. In Annecy for example I know of two. My favorite is the one in the old town, last street towards castle near edge of lake. Larry J |
I agree. I'm leaving my laptop home while in the UK and Portugal, 'tho I haul it to my house in Central MX (satellite commo there).

There are internet cafés and "points internet" in every corner of France these days, even WAY out in the boondocks. Many tourist offices have computers you can use for a small fee. I don't think this will be a problem.

The best way I've found to locate an internet café is to ask a teenager. They will almost always know where they are located.
