Elvira's cheap Christmas gift to everyone

If I could get you all a crispy pink running suit or a fanny pack, I would, but since I don't know your sizes or addresses, this is the best I could do:

From the Sunday paper: Nothing makes a mystery novel seem more urgent than reading it in the city or region where it is set; however, if you're headed for Prague, the Czech Republic; or London; or Copehagen, Denmark, how can you decide on the perfect selection? That's an easy one to solve. Get the "Around the World in 80+ Mysteries" catalog by the Literate Traveller bookstore in Beverly Hills. Order the catalog by writing to the Literate Traveller, PMB 591, 8306 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211; phone 1-800-850-2665.

I called them just now, and they are sending me the catalog (for FREE). The nice woman who answered the phone said I would love it!

Elvira, thanks. As a well equipped European traveller I already own several fashionable, crispy running suits. This is a much better tip.

Merry Christmas!
Thanks! (and I wouldn't want a pink running suit anyway 'cause it would show the chocolate stains too much that I always get as I'm stuffing my face while reading!)

Since I already own the pink running suit and the fanny pack (wry grin), all I really wanted was a wash cloth. But this catalog will have to do. Thanks Elvira, and a happy and healthy to all!

Thanks, Elvira. I love mysteries almost as much as traveling. All Fodor posters should read a short story in Maeve Binchey's book Return Journey called The Suitcase. Merry Christmas.

Topping for the immortal Elvira and for those not shopping today on Black Friday. The idea is a good one, even if the details may be "so last century."

cigale, I couldn't agree more. I'd sure love to read about what Elvira has been doing the past few years!

I'm with Danna: First reaction was "She's back! Thank you, God. She's back!"

What a downer.

Elvira, if we can't "hear" you anymore, at least we remember.
