Eliminate Expedia

Post a reply if you want Expedia to cease to exist on Fodors. Maybe numbers count! FYI-when it pops up click on one of their down arrows then close window!

Flyboy Apr 18th, 2004 11:05 AM

May we presume that also means you will be willing to pay a membership fee equal to the lost revenue to Fodors occasioned by the removal of Expedia's sponsorship of the site?

AAFrequentFlyer Apr 18th, 2004 11:10 AM

How about -

Eliminate stupid posts

tpatricco Apr 18th, 2004 11:37 AM

Or get a pop-up killer! I have one, and haven't had a single pop-up.

sheila Apr 18th, 2004 11:56 AM

Email the editors. Don't post here. It really is the MOST irritating thing.

CarolA Apr 18th, 2004 12:55 PM

Travelot,
How would you like to pay your membership fee?

Bandwidth is NOT free and advertisements make this possible. GET OVER IT!

Joelleinitaly04 Apr 18th, 2004 01:57 PM

I agree that advertising is a small price to pay for so much free information. Many sites that used to be free are now charging a membership fee so I wouldn't complain.

CafeBatavia Apr 18th, 2004 01:58 PM

What pop ups? My son installed something and I have not seen one in over a year.

OliveOyl Apr 18th, 2004 02:06 PM

I never get them either...mine are missing thanks to my anti-virus (+) program. It's worth its weight in platinum!

travelot Apr 18th, 2004 02:13 PM

To clarify I don't have a problem with advertising. I do have a problem with pop ups that run over me when reading or posting! Sorry Expedia staff that my post created such negative reactivity on your part!

Dlemma Apr 18th, 2004 02:54 PM

I agree that we have to accept advertising. However, I strongly dislike the ads that jump up and actually obscure the thing that I'm trying to read. That's going too far, IMHO.

I send Expedia a message about how much I disliked their roll-over ads on this site. I received a reply that basically said that they just wanted to inform me about exciting new offers from Expedia, blah, blah, blah. They also suggested that I could use a popup blocker from www.panicware.com. I tried installing the popup blocker and guess what? IT DOESNT STOP THE EXPEDIA ROLLOVERS!!

So far the only thing that has helped me is to use Netscape instead of Internet Explorer. I have yet to see the nasty Expedia rollover when I use Netscape.

Where did you get Eleminate from?

CafeBatavia Apr 18th, 2004 04:23 PM

Never enter a Spelling Bee and dare to boast of winning unless you can actually spell!

Clifton Apr 18th, 2004 07:14 PM

LOL. That spelling post was very ILLUMINATING. POTATOE anyone? Great followup posts.

N2it Apr 18th, 2004 07:16 PM

ttt

SalB Apr 18th, 2004 07:22 PM

Switch to Netscape. I've never seen a popup on Fodors. I have a popunder on the NY Times but they are easy enough to close when you close the article.

CafeBatavia Apr 19th, 2004 03:38 AM

Pop ups? We don't have no more stinking pop ups!

tpatricco Apr 21st, 2004 03:24 PM

Those ads are annoying for sure. Get the popup blocker from Ads Gone, it's the best. You can download it and install it right away and then they'll mail you a CD for use later on. www.adsgone.com I don't get the expedia ads at all, and didn't know what everybody was complaining about until I logged on at work...with no popup blocker...and AGH! What a pain. They have the right to advertise. We have the right to block 'em. Well worth the small investment! Trish
