Electricity Converter from USA

I read in The Rough Guide to the Netherlands that electrical equipment from the US need a converter plus an adapter. Is this true? I have two adapters - one says Europe and another set has two -one for northern Europe and one for southern Europe. The northern Europe prongs are fatter.

What kind of converter do I need and I am assuming I need the northern Europe adapter?

An adapter just changes the plug and the converter changes the current. You will need a converter for some things and an adapter as well. My adapters work in southern and northern EU with the exception of UK. So, yes, bring your northern europe adapters.

If you are thinking of your laptop, it has a converter built in and you just need an adapter. Hairdyers may need both.

I will be charging my camera battery, ipod and phone.

those are all dual voltage. So you just need plug adapters.

What janisj said. :)

Check the specs on each of your items (look at the voltage range on the chargers). Some older cameras/phones may not be dual voltage. If they say a range of 110-240, you only need a plug adapter.

Thanks everyone!

So milliebest, do your appliances say 110-240 dual voltage and all you need are adapters?

Many threads ends with "thanks/I will look into it/etc" and it may have satisfied the original poster's need, but others who come here and read the threads cannot tell how it ended up.

Here is an example of thread with many suggestions followed by the original posters coming back and reporting back which advices turned out useful:

I am not home right now but when I do return later next month before my trip I will check my manuals. I feel like I did something wrong. Did I? There is really nothing to report until I return home and return from my trip.

Back from Netherlands and Belgium. I did not need a converter. I had two adapters - one for northern Europe and one for Southern Europe and they both worked.
