Electrical adaptors in Italy
 

Can someone please shed some light on electrical adaptors required for Italy? One source says to use the 2 prong adaptor and another one says to use the 3 prong in-line type with ground. I already have the converter but wanted to buy extra adaptors.

A two-prong "Continental plug" adaptor is all you need..it will work in both two prong and grounded outlets

In addition to Intrepid being correct in that the two prong one will work in either kind of outlet, be aware that if you have the three prong type, it will NOT fit in many of the outlets you'll see which will only have two holes.

Two issues here: In Europe apart from the UK which as ever is weird, there are a variety of outlet types which share one common characteristic. Even though the grounding arrangements differ from counry to country, a european two pronged plug will fit them all. The voltage however is twice that of the US, so unless you have a transformer, which is heavy, or a multivoltage piece of equipment, you'll get more than you bargained for if you plug a piece of US kit in! Depending on how much kit youhave, the best solution might be simply to buy cheap euro versions of the things you need and donate them to a thrift shop or other good cause when you leave. It saves carrying them on the plane as well. Remember, most hotels will loan hairdyers irons etc.
