Elafonissos Info?
 

I am having trouble finding much information on Elafonissos. I have the DK books on Greece and the Greek islands, but there is nothing in the books. What is the best way to get there? Where should I stay? I am going to Santorini and Crete and would like to go to Elafonissos.

Tex - a Google search revealed 2 Elafonissus sites - 1 on Crete which is a popular beach resort, the other a tiny island off the tip of southern Greece. There are apparently small private boats that make the 2 mile trip to the mainland frequently and apparently there is ferry service to Pireaus, but minimal tourist accomodations on the island. You're quite right; I can't find it either. There's a lot about Elafonissos on Crete (which I've visited myself), but I'm certain there was a thread about the island early this year and I cannot find it, whatever spelling I use. Can anyone else try?

We are all looking forward to Trish's trip report. The island looks so dreamy yet there is so little info.

Thankfully I reconfirmed my reservation on Elafonisos because the hotel we were planning on staying said they didn't have rooms for us. This was last Sunday and we were looking for rooms for the August 15th holiday. Needless to say it took about 20 calls to Greece before we found a place with those dates and 2 rooms. Now we are staying at a place called Aronis Stayros.
