Eiffel Tower Tickets for July?
 

I went to the official site of the Eiffel Tower to purchase tickets for our trip in July. For about the last month or so the website only offers tickets to the end of June. I keep checking every week and the calendar for July doesn't show up. Last year we bought tickets in March for our June trip. Do you think its too early yet to purchase for early July(around July 10th)? I was wondering if the site is having a problem and I'm getting nervous that somehow we won't be able to get tickets the week we are there. I remember last year the tickets to the top were sold out so we could only go to the 2nd. level. If anyone has any advice, it would be appreciated.

Well, in any case, they have said that the elevator problems are likely to last until the end of the year. During Easter weekend, the wait to go up the one working elevator was 3 hours.

This might be a good time for people to change their imminent Eiffel Tower plans and go to the top of the Tour Montparnasse instead.

If you go to the top of Notre Dame or the top of the Arc de Triompe, is it absolutely necessary to go to the top of the Effiel tower to get good views? I realize the Eiffel is higher than the Arc, but Notre Dame is quite high, right? I know I don't want to wait in line for 3 hours.

I wouldn't call Notre Dame "quite high" but the view is indeed magnificent from the towers.

If you are deadset on going up a tall building to see views, there are many places you can do it. The Montparnasse Tower is higher (I think--it certainly is tall), just go up there (it costs around $10-11 as I recall). I went up there for fun one night after dark as I wanted to see the lights. It was kind of cool, I know there wasn't a long line as I would never wait in a long line to go look at a view.

You can go to the top of Galeries Lafayette dept store for that matter, although I guess it's only around 8 stories tall, but they have a viewing terrace up there on the top floor and it is free. I think you kind of get a better view of Sacre Coeur or that side of Paris, though. And you can get good views from the terrace down in front of Sacre Coeur where the carousel is, as well as some parks in Paris, such as Belleville.

You probably don't want to go up there or to the Belleville quartier, but at the very top is the Maison de l'Air (at Parc de Belleville) and there are good views of all Paris from there and it is free. The park and view are, anyway, there is a small fee at Maison de l'Air which is a place studying the air quality in Paris.

and of course you can go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe but that costs money and isn't super tall, but I don't actually like views that well from way up high.
