Eiffel Tower Photo

Hi!

I just know I have read it somewhere in this forum about this place where you can get great shots of the Eiffel Tower....not the far-away shot but its quite near. It's where you go up, don't need to pay and there is a restaurant there too. Can somebody direct me to that particular thread?

Many thanks.

you might be talking about the observation deck on top of Tour Montparnasse?.. if you are going to the deck there is a charge around 9€ or so, and a dedicated elevator to it (a further walk up a couple flights of stairs).

There is a fancy restaurant Le Ciel de Paris and a coffeshop on the same floor where the elevator dumps out for the deck.

I think you can also go to an outside terrace at Galeries Lafayette and again at Printemps (I've been to the GL one, not Printemps).

Only about 6 more years until La Samaritaine is due to reopen...

You do need to pay to go up the Montparnasse building. 10E! but we thought it well worth it for the amazing 360 degree view of the city with no crowds or lines. And the best part is that you don't have the view ruined by the Montparnasse building!

Thanks Travelnut, I think its the Montparnasse.

We have been to La Samaritane...actually ate at the coffee shop there on top, but the Tower seems quite a distance. I have to look at our photos again. Thanks kerouc, I actually miss that magasin...I bought quite a few French elementary books there for my son.

Thanks too plafield...don't mind paying, I must have remembered incorrectly.

Here's a link to a photo I took of the Eiffel Tower from Montparnasse(and some Paris food photos too, if you're interested)

Is there a terrace at the Musee de Quai Branley? That's a lot closer....

What time of year are you going? In spring, approach from the east (Av de la Bourdonnais side) for a nice view framed with flowering trees. After looking at the gorgeous architecture on Av Rapp.

Going this route, you avoid the annoying, pushy vendors swarming like flies in the Parc du Champ de Mars, as well as the tour buses to the north (river) side.

Get off the metro at the champs de mars stop and walk toward the Eiffel Tower. You can get a very nice close up from there. There is also a restaurant.

Here's the view I took - the picture quality isn't great since it was digitalized from a negative, not taken with a digital camera.

That's unfair plafield...your pics of the pastry shops are just making me hungry and I'm finding hard to concentrate on the Eiffel Tower!!

Thanks mlleFifi for the suggestion.

Adrienne, I couldn't open your link but thanks anyway.

Travelnut...I'll look into the Musee de Quai Branly. I passed by there once, but didn't give it a second look. Thanks.

Oh my goodness, Plafield, all those pastries, and I have to wait at least 172 days before sampling them! Have you eaten at all those places? If so, you must write a report comparing them! The only one I've tried so far is Pain de Sucre-- last trip, our apartment was on the same street, 2 blocks away.

plafield Jun 7th, 2008 04:09 PM

MademoiselleFifi: Yes, I've eaten at all of them and wrote a a bit about them in my last trip report (which also includes all the meals that go with the other food photos)

In May 2006 we took this photo from the restaurant located just across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. It is located on the Trocadero, and it is called Cafe Le Homme, or something similar to that.

It was a great day and a great photo.
