Uh oh oh oh - and the interesting blurb in that link:

Why is it illegal to take pictures of Eiffel Tower at night?

tomboy Mar 14th, 2018 02:23 PM

Because the light show is an "artistic expression", and taking photos without paying a royalty to the lightman is illegal.

Of course, he's not set up to TAKE money, nor is he registered with ASCAP, or whatever, but hey, it's France, and they can pass whatever unenforceable laws they wish.

Amateur photos are totally legal. It is only if you show the Eiffel tower in a movie or a commercial that you must pay for the lighting effects. And yes, people pay a lot to do that.

They were working on the wall when we were there. You must go through security now to even go near it. I am not sure I would like it red.

I thought that Tower from Expo was slated to be torn down? A blight on the landscape. Blocks views of Montparnasse Tower from several vantage points. Tear it down.

And we are going to paint the Golden Gate Bridge - black.

Seems that for a long while the Eiffel will be rusty brown and red - must take ages to repaint it all.
