One night in Rome

Hello. I have a quick overnight layover in Rome in December. I'll be arriving at 3pm and leaving the next morning very early. I'm looking for a good, not too expensive hotel close by to spend the night. I've been to Rome several times, so I have seen all the major sites but if you could recommmend some things I could do that night, I'd appreciate that, too. Thanks!

Based on recommendations here I just changed my flight eve hotel from the Hilton at Fiumicino to the Holiday Inn that's only about 15 minutes from Fiumicino. Hilton was 235 euros, Holiday Inn is 99 Euros. They each have a shuttle to and from the center of Rome.

Thanks! Is there a shuttle from the airport to the Holiday Inn?

My suggestion: Stay in a hotel in the Trastevere district, don't stay near the airport, you will probably go into the city anyway, and eat near your hotel and walk the district or along the river. Sleep well and take a taxi to the airport.
